End users are getting feisty!

So here are some quick profiles of end users that have made inquiries on domains I own/manage in 2015.

#1 - The extremely low ball offer from people who think domains are $50 USD
#2 - The person who refuses to make a first offer, or are very resistant to make the first offer; but will continue to eMail you for days.
#3 - Lots of inquires from India (analytics) - Domaining is flourishing there, hello friends!
#4 - People who eMail you for a 'price' and then never respond.

My favorite so far this year was a CEO from a startup who called me a B**** because I wouldn't sell him a name that I had personal development plans for; no price quote, no make an offer, just stonewalled.

Any colorful end user stories that you would like to share? What are your inquiries like in 2015?

Humans love donations!
If it was complete charity i would consider to donate, but they are going to use the site for commersial purpose... Also now they use my name with a hyphen in the middle.

how do you know #'s 1>4 were end-users?

and i wouldn't label them as such, until they actually purchase the domain and use it.

at this point, they are only inquirers.

however, if they buy it and park it, then they are us.

imo...

You are right @biggie . I would say that in most cases that they are hopeful end users inquiring about the domain, and sometimes they are domain investors.

As you know, after a while you can tell who are the brokers, who are the end users, and who are the investors. Either by eMail research, analytics, or their general approach.

true, however you see a lot of people say they got "end-user" inquiry, but until you sell the name and see it being used as viable website.... then it didn't get "end-used".
or, even if the name is sold and they paid "end-user" price, could be just another domainer who's willing to pay more for it.

but that analysis, is for after the sale.

Got $300 offer via sedo
I countered $3,000
Buyer immediately cancelled negotiations

The negotiation was live for about 4 minutes

I got $20 offer for CMS related domain.

I counter with $1500, then he replied $25.

I sent the importance of domain names and negotiated to take $1200. he replied $30.

i stopped reply him b'coz whatever i send he will reply $35 in next time :'(.

Horrible Buyers :-/
You could have hit your number if you replied 300 more times. :xf.grin:

No, I think that finally end users are getting smarter about domains and purchasing them.
More and more, they are realizing that there are lots of domains out there waiting to be regged, domains that one domainer wants too damn much can be had from another domainer cheaper.
Plus of course, they are frequenting forums and sales sites and looking at domains closer.
Good for endusers finally wising up to greedy domainers!

Got an inquiry on one of my InVitro domains, it was an enduser. She said is the name available for the use of their foundation. She was wanting it freely and i said no and thats the end of the story.

I had a similar situation a few years ago. I tried to negotiate some rental income of course, but that effort wasn't successful. But what I ended up doing was to exchange the USE of the site for a banner ad. I designed the banner ad to the effect of "support a donor by buying a domain" and the ad linked to my portfolio. The site/cause was very popular and they got a lot of traffic, especially business traffic. As a result, I ended up making several sales out of the deal. But perhaps even more important, after they got established they realized that they could lose everything they had invested in both design and goodwill. So after a little more than a year in they wanted to buy it and amazingly, the price had gone up :).Have to remember that there are lots of ways to win in life and domains.

Wait until you come across the person who wants to buy your domain, goes to Escrow, and then enters the wrong amount or backs out completely. It's absolutely soul draining!

me > i never attend any school so i don't know what is school at all. I will give $500 discount for students

(he wasn't a teacher. He was a guy from some IT company)

I got this same lame excuse this week. There must have been a seminar somewhere teaching people to use 'school project' as a back story. The woman that inquired w/ me gave a crazy acronym as an example... she was the most savvy school teacher I ever met, bought the typo/phonetic version too, and used her $4.95 purchase as justification why she offered me $59.00. The last person that did that to me was a CEO of a tech startup starting a new product line.

Idk why people think we have rocks in our heads?

"It's for a school / personal project" is one of my favorite "sell it to me cheap" lines.

What does it matter to me what you're going to be using the domain for after you buy it? Will you using it for a school project help pay MY bills?

I also got the "school project" domain for one of my geos' Said it was for her daughters class.....sigh must think we are dumb.

The school project line is funny, must indeed be from a popular seminar somewhere. Trying to appeal to a domain seller's better nature is a bit of a long shot!

Exactly!! Some guy emailed me last year inquiring about a triple premium LLL.info domain using this same "school project " line.

But my question is, why do these cheapos target good domain names? If you're a student on a cheap budget you should go after hand regs, or barely decent names that match your cheap budget. but no, they go after high $xxx and low $x,xxx names when they only have $50. what can we do? say no and move along...i'm learning that knowing when to say no is critical in our industry.

why call domainers greedy when many people are already trying to buy our names for too cheap?
