End users are getting feisty!

So here are some quick profiles of end users that have made inquiries on domains I own/manage in 2015.

#1 - The extremely low ball offer from people who think domains are $50 USD
#2 - The person who refuses to make a first offer, or are very resistant to make the first offer; but will continue to eMail you for days.
#3 - Lots of inquires from India (analytics) - Domaining is flourishing there, hello friends!
#4 - People who eMail you for a 'price' and then never respond.

My favorite so far this year was a CEO from a startup who called me a B**** because I wouldn't sell him a name that I had personal development plans for; no price quote, no make an offer, just stonewalled.

Any colorful end user stories that you would like to share? What are your inquiries like in 2015?

When in truth after doing some research, he was educated in the U.S. (at Princeton $$$) and has owned and sold several large media & entertainment companies in his region. He also has been in high positions in some very recognizable brands operating abroad. It also turns out that his business is not a non profit.

And the final truth of the matter... the domain had 1 owner previously from the 90's for over 16 years. And it wasn't Mr. Princeton.

End users in 2015 still acting like it's 2007.
Or maybe, you are looking at the rap sheet of the wrong guy. It happens.

It happened to James Blake.

Contacted a prospect buyer who owned an extended version of the domain:

1st email they send: we used to own this domain and now your trying to sell it back to us?

2nd email: You must love your job. Stupid fxck.

Some people just can't fathom that domains are free game once they expire.
You contacted them? lol

Very true, in this case he was easy to read up on.

He has a very specific name, and he actually used his real eMail and name to make contact.

So I found his social network profiles, business information, found articles on his business transactions, researched the domain he sent the eMail from (which is the ccTLD that I spoke of), checked his visitor info on analytics (which I run on domains) - they all tie in together to verify this is the person.

I guess he thought I wasn't going to look him up or hoped that I didn't know the history of the domain.

It's all odd, because someone with that much business acumen just can't be that naive.

I didn't reply, and won't ever reply until he re-represents himself correctly.

Well, you said it yourself. If that guy is really THAT big time, i seriously doubt he would be wasting his precious time on such fiddling haggle talk.

You are probably talking to his domain admin guy.

"#1 - The extremely low ball offer from people who think domains are $50 USD"

It depends - ff you bought it a few months ago with a $1 coupon it's ridiculous to be offended by a $50 offer...

It's ridiculous to be offended by any offer, it's business. When someone involves emotion, they have already lost.

So if someone offered you $50 for a DN you own, that you acquired for $1 using your metrics to evaluate that domain as a 'good' domain - you would accept?

Lately I accepted $45 offer for domain I bought with a $3 coupon a few months ago.

The thread suggest we should be offended by offers like that...

That was very nice of you. :) Hey you never know, you might have saved yourself 3+ years of regfee and made a profit on top!

This is the attitude I'm talking about
Are you saying buying a reg fee domain and selling it for "only" $45 is me doing him a huge favor?

I should probably expand my "story"

It's a brandable madeup word - I tried to sell it here but no one would buy it even for $5
And since it expire in 3 months I decided to post $45 BIN on the website.
A guy contacted me by email and it's not like I could rise the price so I accepted it.

Don't get me wrong I would love to sell it for $xxxx+ but I'm realistic.

You know what they say:
"a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush"

I got a 50$ offer for one of my handregs (0.99$ ) , however I believe this name can be sold for a low-mid xxx$ . So I replied back with 450$ and since then I haven't heard from him. It's been 4 days, let's see.

So what are you going to do if you don't get higher offer?

I contacted an owner of LLL.co (my initials, domain registered in November, never used by end user) and told him if he plans to drop it in 2 months he should contact me.
I offered $50 (I will still have to pay $30 for renewal) - but something tells me he will see it as lowball offer...
Haven't heard from him yet.

I guess I look at this thread from the "end user" perspective...

hello , first of all the domain expires at next June, so i have plenty of time. Meanwhile ,there are at least 50 companies which can use my name (it's better than theirs). I also strongly believe that i can get the same 50$ from any domainer if i put the name in an auction. So, that said i think it did well, i just have to wait some more time.

Whatever price you want to sell your domains for is your own prerogative.

If $49 does it for you, then so be it.

So we agree, cool

Because, you know, some are insulted by what they perceive as lowball offers - and start a thread about this ;)

Actually, that post wasn't edited at all. That's what I said from the beginning.

This is a light thread about end user stories, nobody said the words "offended" or "attitude" until you just did.

Maybe you are right - I might have only read second sentence.
Sorry if you see my comments it as trolling or wining... :(

Sorry, just trying to keep it light. I value your opinion and input. A fresh set of experienced eyes is always good in any conversation. :xf.smile:

In the end, I typically push my sales to the maximum amount I can. So if someone makes a low offer, it's just a part of the chase. I started this thread because the stories from domain buyers just started to get comical.

In most cases the stories are funny and an interesting read.
