End users are getting feisty!

So here are some quick profiles of end users that have made inquiries on domains I own/manage in 2015.

#1 - The extremely low ball offer from people who think domains are $50 USD
#2 - The person who refuses to make a first offer, or are very resistant to make the first offer; but will continue to eMail you for days.
#3 - Lots of inquires from India (analytics) - Domaining is flourishing there, hello friends!
#4 - People who eMail you for a 'price' and then never respond.

My favorite so far this year was a CEO from a startup who called me a B**** because I wouldn't sell him a name that I had personal development plans for; no price quote, no make an offer, just stonewalled.

Any colorful end user stories that you would like to share? What are your inquiries like in 2015?

I recently contacted a fashion startup about a domain I own. They replied asking for the price, blah, blah.... Told em 7.5k... They countered with 5.5k... I said, cool... Went went to Escrow, blah, blah... Then he messaged me back the next morning telling me his "Web Design" guy said, the domain is worth $75...

I basically canceled Escrow and told him to fuck off..... He contacted me yesterday about the domain and wants to still buy it, but told me to wait to July... lol

Tell him if he fires his web design guy he'll be able to afford it now.

how do you know #'s 1>4 were end-users?

and i wouldn't label them as such, until they actually purchase the domain and use it.

at this point, they are only inquirers.

however, if they buy it and park it, then they are us.

imo...

LMAO... great answer indeed, Ali
i am sure my barber wouldn't be any less entitled to a professional opinion about domain values than most "web designers" are.. ;)

No, I think that finally end users are getting smarter about domains and purchasing them.
More and more, they are realizing that there are lots of domains out there waiting to be regged, domains that one domainer wants too damn much can be had from another domainer cheaper.
Plus of course, they are frequenting forums and sales sites and looking at domains closer.
Good for endusers finally wising up to greedy domainers!

They are indeed. My latest transaction (which i'll post when finalized) involved a 2 week conversation over email before an offer was ever made. A very educated buyer, their first real domain acquisition and their initial offer of $xx,xxx seemed highly researched and though out. It's refreshing to do business with educated endusers!

I think at least 50% of the emails I receive asking for a price are just tire kickers trying to get a valuation on a similar domain which they have no idea how to value themselves. I usually proved a price on the high side of my expectations, and never hear back from them. 100% of my enquires from Afternic on my Make Offer Domains are like this. Well 99.9%. I once sold 1 domain a couple of months after setting the price, after they had regged all the surrounding GTLD's.

I agree this probably happens often. Any inquiry I receive that I can't trace back with a name / email / phone number to a company that might have a need for the domain I assume is someone doing research for their own benefit.

Got an inquiry on one of my InVitro domains, it was an enduser. She said is the name available for the use of their foundation. She was wanting it freely and i said no and thats the end of the story.

I think you are spot on; this certainly applies for brands looking for fanciful (aka brandable) domains.

In the case of exact match domains I think that buyers just have to 'pay the piper', so to speak, when it comes to negotiations.
