FYI

Nothing we don't know as domainers but it is sometimes good to get an end user perspective on stuff related to domain names.

Thanks to what I assume was an issue with someone’s company card, Samsung forgot to renew a potentially dangerous domain, leaving it to be purchased by Anubis Labs chief technology officer and nice guy João Gouveia. According to Motherboard, the domain associated with Samsung’s S Suggest app “ssuggest.com” was seemingly abandoned, giving Gouveia (or any hacker) the opportunity to purchase it.

I remember the first domain I let expire. I bought areyoucool.cool after hearing about Sesame Street using the domain name in an episode. I had it redirect to my personal page as a joke. Cultural ephemera aside, when it came time to renew I was hesitant in paying the $20 fee. You, like Samsung, know what happened next.

From an end use perspective, I would set all of my domains to AutoRenew. It is a lot easier to uncheck the box and let it go than try to get it back if I mistakenly let it go.

Yeah there's this domain I've been trying to purchase every year for the past 7 years from an enduser. This is how it goes:

1- Domain expires.
2- I get excited.
3- Wait a month, then I send a short email to her asking since she's letting it go if I could purchase it.
4- She writes back, explaining "oops, nope, we are planning to use it for our business".
5- She renews it, and it stays parked yet again for another year.
6- I get annoyed, promise myself to not remind her again the following year.
7- Next year, I break my promise.
8- Here we go again.

So, sometimes endusers become domainers in their own rights. Darn them, I say!

Have you like Facebook stalked and noticed that she is super duber good looking or something, then it would make sense why you let her off the hook 7 times already :)

The worst is when you let a domain expire, and somehow it becomes a “premium” domain. This means to get your domain back you have to pay thousands of dollars.

True story almost bought a "premium" price domain then I realized it was once mine..and I let it drop cause I couldn't sell it..not letting history repeat itself

So there are also "Lola's" in TO..

@deez007 , I bought a .com domain last year JULY and listed it for sale. Around MAY this year, i found out that .NET version has been registered since APRIL 2017 and hosted on a dedicated server and pointing to THEPLANET/COM nameservers with UNDER CONSTRUCTION logo.

My question is, will they still be interested in the .COM?
And whats your take on this, generally?

Hmmm IMO, anything is possible..Hard to tell without knowing anything about the name or the company or the niche they operate in or general demand for those sort of domains.. to many variables and the information you have provided is way to vauge.

So the best anser I can provide is:

Yes/No/Maybe

That would have been funny had you re-purchased it. You know what they say about first instincts, how they are usually correct? Interesting to see how valuable some of the names we let drop today will become tomorrow.

I wonder if anyone has ever let a name expire, forgotten it was theirs, see it on a droplist, and put in a backorder on their own name? Silly but possible.
