I was in prereg the day they announced them, but all of my choices .. $1200 worth, were in the reserved list. I requested, news, casino, bingo, weather, flowers, poker, and several others. They were $$$ at that point to prereg.

I was frustrated because every name I tried to reg was 'taken'.. later I found out they were in this same list. lol

So it took me a while to find names to reg that were not premium. I think my first was homefsbo.mobi.. then I just kept on registering. The rest is history lol

Hmm those are scarce

I remember scavenging the forum in the build up to the Landrush Drop and being surprised that no one was talking about Dot Mobi hardly..

Then I figured everyone was being quiet about it to prevent others from pre-landrush registering as competition..

I think I was even on the chat at the exact time, I think it was 10 EST on September 26th, and no one was talking about it either there..

After the 26th.. there was alot of bashing Dot Mobi and I had thought people were doing that on purpose to prevent others from registering great available names.. I really thought it was a tactic.. I coudn't fathom why someone would be so against something like this, that I only saw as a positive.. well it took some time for me to realize that the bashing was real and sometimes anger..

I first heard about Dot Mobi in Monte's podcast months before.. he has always been a great champion leader of Dot Mobi.. I didn't even know pre-regs were gonna take place until like a month before they extended the deadline.. I was big on some of the first come only reservation pre-landrush registrars.. but they didn't have a strong showing.. after the 26th began the radio rush for me..

Through this entire experience, never having alot of money, I have used alot of credit cards and have gone hungry getting as much as I can as a dot mobi guerilla.. have only taken two days break from Dot Mobi considering since September 26th..

Sorry for writing too much, I am just enjoying this :)

(It's not over folks, when we wish we could turn back time, we would want us to give it our all, still, at this time in the WHOIS; and, if you have cash, even the aftermarket inquiries at this stage of Dot Mobi.. today)

Kind Regards,

Yelo

I just found my first mobi-related post on the following thread (August 25, 2006 Post #9): .mobi landrush: Who's in?????

It's funny how many people didn't support .mobi then compared to now :)

Bashing a new product/service is normal. Just look at all the people who bashed iPod, Zune, etc.. They all move onto bashing something new and interesting. Some people just have nothing better to do :)

Personally I want a system where I can use my cell phone with my expensive data plan from Cogers and find out what time that movie is on or when the <insert TV show here> is on. That is why I found .mobi to be so intriguing.. Thats why I wanted to be apart of it.

I remember being pissed when they invented cd's...I swore I would never give them any of my money when I could just play tapes....mobi reminds me a bit of that...many peeps dont see the light when it comes to mobile usage.

I really wish I would of gotten into it sooner (when land rush just began), but I got into it in the begining of October (a little late), but I won't have any regrets. But looking at the past posts thread that Minion (posted) reminds me like the old saying (if I only knew then what I know now!) ...reffering to growing up as a kid line.

I think you got in with enough time to get some good regs, plus you one developing them and will have a chance to beat out those who are just sitting on their names. Your dunce.mobi is looking great!

Honestly though, I think there are still great names in some of the other major languages left to register. Not a lot, but some. If I was just getting into this .mobi thing today, that is where I would be looking.

This is a classic relic..

Cast of NP characters

I was "cy4uim" (switched to worldradio.mobi later).. I was the last to leave heh :)

.mobi had a great foundation laid for its success.

I should have known better. I should have bought many more .mobis then.

I had witnessed several extensions that started with a bang, fizz. The biz. the .info etc. After renewing many of them and selling or letting drop my weaker ones I was hesitant with investing in .mobi.

But the news was catching on and it made sense. This extension is not backed by hype. When I saw the billions of dollars behind the idea of .mobi and that coupled with the huge technology investments made for mobile, I guickly made my choices.

I have evolved along with the mobi. To show what I truly thought of the .mobis and its chance of success I registered my first domain having anything to do with .mobi, and it was not a .mobi The domain did not start with a (d) if you know what I mean.d--kmobi.com, registered 7/16/06. Lol.. well its to be seen if that name will sell, you tell me.

Like I say though after that date I woke up and started looking for .mobi names. I only own a small portfolio. But in my opinion a few of them are probably worth more than my other .coms put together. That would be great, especially if I don't jump at the first offer that comes in.

It has been great having this forum, as bouncing ideas from one to another is a great way to learn fast.

Good luck to all .mobi hunters, Quack-Quack

I don't remember one particular post that got me going but it was something someone said about developing your .mobi. I like to develop sites. Because I was only thinking of domains I could develop as opposed to ones that would sell, I didn't register many and didn't preregister any because I didn't think to save up the money. I lost out on two premium LLL's too because I didn't have enough in my paypal account on landrush day. I even called godaddy and talked to a rep who tried to help me register them. I made tons of lists and just about every one of them was gone when I went back later when I had more funds. I am happy for the few gems I found though. :)

I had .mobi pegged for 'just another extension', and didn't bother pre-regging any. Then the day before landrush, I read a few threads, and decided to note down a couple of names for the 'what the hey' of it. I got up early, actually managed to get one or two, but felt just in case, I'd better get some LLL's too, as they always seem to be a good bet. (27 now) Then upon reading more threads, it just dawned on me the whys of the viablity for this extension, and the credit card chase was on!! Reading, watching and hearing all the different opinions on mobi, was very enlighting and just solidified my opinion, as the pros far outweighed the cons to me. The extension and it's purpose makes total sense to me, and I think in 2 years plus from now, a lot of us will be happy that the naysayers left us so many good names to reg.

GL %%- to .mobi and the early, and later, NP mobiers here.

Kerrijo, I came across this post of yours in one of the threads linked to above. I think it's very cool to see what you wrote then right next to your current signature -- sort of a "before and after"! http://www.namepros.com/1433180-post14.html

As for me, my first mention of .mobi in a thread was on 9/29, I believe, in the .mobi showcase thread: http://www.namepros.com/1491020-post153.html. I started with .mobi almost by accident, as I mention in this post, not realizing that putting in for names at Pool in the pre-reg period would automatically purchase them for me if they were grabbed. I had just been doing it on a lark, thinking I'd get another chance to approve the purchase. I barely knew anything about .mobi, just a bit that I'd heard and hadn't really given much thought to. I got a $230 charge on my credit card for 3 domains, and I tried at first to get them unregged (can't do, of course). After that, when I realized that LLL.mobi domains would be a good investment, I bought a few more during the $60 reg period, and then that led to more, and more, and more...

Now, I have to laugh -- I've got over 425 of them and spent far more than I ever could have imagined I would. But the only thing I'd change at this point is that I wish in those days when I was contesting the Pool registrations with them that I'd instead have been registering other fantastic names still available at that point! I still ended up with some very good ones, but I'll always see those few days as days of lost opportunity now. At least I woke up to the potential fairly soon after!

I didn't discover NamePros until December so many mobi fans predate my involvement here. But I'm not new to the internet, making my first regs back in 91 and made some sales through the mid 90's. Dot mobi is the first thing to come along since those early days that even comes close to resembling the potential of the early .com days. When I heard about it in August I checked it out and decided to jump in with both feet. My only regret was to not better understand the landrush game and I should have/could have applied for my regs at multiple registrars. Of course it would have been a very expensive month to pre reg the same 200+ names at a dozen registrars in landrush, but I would have secured more than the 30% I managed through my single registrar. Can't cry over spilled milk. Move on and make the best of what was accomplished. Let's lift our collective glasses to .mobi, what I perceive to be one of the most significant internet opportunities since the early 90's. Quality names combined with quality development will score big IMO.

Aww thanks Dave! :)

Oh and I took my sig off today (some of my developed mobi's) for a rest to check natural traffic. I'll put it back up in a few weeks.

Also I enjoy reading the stories too. %%- to all mobiers!
