Hi all!

We’ve created this thread to make it easier to communicate with us here on Namepros, and we’ll also be posting regular updates on our offers and products. Please feel free to share any feedback and suggestions with us, or to let us know if there’s anything we can assist with.

We’d like to kick things off with an extension of our $7.99 .COM transfer sale, the code “COMTRANS4” has been extended until 23:59 PST on May 31, and there’s no limit on how many domains you can transfer using the code. Every month we have great prices on a wide selection of domains, and you can find a full list of our sales here:

https://www.dynadot.com/sales.html

We’re also excited to share that our CEO, Todd Han, will be hosting an AMA (Ask Me Anything) right here on Namepros in the near future, with more information on a date and time coming soon.

Dynadot is an ICANN accredited domain name registrar and web host headquartered in San Mateo, California. The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

Thanks for those thoughts. That is truly disconcerting to hear, and it does give me pause. But I do wonder, Epik was really well known and decently large no? I mean, on Dynadots level? Not a small player like Sav... right? So if it happened to Epik, I suppose it could happen to Dyna.

Also - let's say a Registrar does go out of business. What happens to domains registered there? Does ICANN step in to take over the registrar and allow outbound transfers?
Nah, Epik was never at Dyna's level. I think Dynadot currently has around 6mil names under management. From memory the max Epik got to was like 750k. Sav is bigger than that now, but I think a lot of their names have come from discounting, which means many won't renew. Of course, any registrar can fail regardless of size. Possibly what is more important to consider is how long they've been around, their reputation, and current management. At the end of the day, it's also very important that a registrar is profitable. Without that, they will hit issues. It seems that's where Epik fell over too.

It troubles me that Sav have often struggled to make the basics work. But with that said - Epik had no problems with the basics... until they did! And then it was all downhill from there! By no means am I saying that Sav will fail. I hope they don't. But the important stuff has to work at least 99.9% of the time IMHO.

Edit: forgot to answer the last part. Yes, if a registrar goes out of business ICANN will step in - but the domains will be transferred to a different registrar in due course. The big issue is that problems can go on for many many months before ICANN does anything. There were numerous instances of Epik not allowing transfers out, the owner complains to ICANN, ICANN goes back to Epik for a 'please explain', Epik eventually releases the domain and sends ICANN a response of 'we had some delays, nothing to see here'. That is enough to keep ICANN at bay. That sort of stuff can go on for a very long time before ICANN does anything meaningful. In the meantime you might have lost a $100k domain sale because you couldn't transfer out, or because the domain was missing from your account. And Epik isn't the only one - plenty of others have done it over the years.

Further to the above - it looks like Sav and Porkbun are both pushing toward 2mil DUM (domains under management). That puts them in the Top 30 for DUM. Dyna is over 6mil and is in the Top 10.
https://domainnamestat.com/statistics/registrar/others

That's good to know. A top 30 registrar seems to be more "safe" than the smaller ones. Of course, I suppose no one is ever truly safe. I think what I'll do it diversify. Keep some names at Sav but not all. Diversification is the key to reducing risk. Prior to this chat I would've had 100% in one (ultimately). Now I think I'll cap any one registrar at 50%, so if one fails - while I wait for the return of my names - I can at least have some names potentially bringing in revenue.

Deleted this, I see this was answered above about the bulk spending.

@Caleb Tweed - your team added "hit counts" to the columns in the dashboard. Thank you. However, although added - it always and only shows zero. This occurs even though when you go into a domain, it clearly shows "hits". Can you please report this bug? The first image is taken from the columns in the dashboard. The second image is the detail when I've clicked through to the domain. thank you

So it should show Hit Counts, although it doesn't record it in real time. The hit counter should update from the previous hour, though going to it from the same IP within that hour won't increase the hits. Let me know if it's still not showing any hits after going to the site!

Thank you for allowing CamelCase on landing pages! I just noticed that it's now possible.

Thanks Jannes for sharing the camel case info with us...this is a big deal for me.

Now if they would give us the option to toggle off the trustypilot ratings at the top of the page, I would truly be happy!

Thanks for noticing this. I made the changes today with all of my Dynadot landers. They do seem more impressive with the camel casing.

Agreed, if the positioning on the page is flexible according to TrustPilot's TOS. How much flexibility Dynadot has with TrustPilot is unclear. Lower on the page might be better until the ratings are closer to the 5.0 mark. If they keep improving their landers and ultimately marketplace sales, maybe they'll really soar in their ratings anyhow and ultimately want to keep it up top!

Finally, thank you, @Caleb Tweed and Dynadot, for being responsive here on NP to our camel casing request. And thank you to your Dynadot customer service and tech support depatments, for their willingness to make happier customers!

I just wanted to say thank you to @Dynadot: You are one of my favorite, if not the most favorite, and best Domain go-to places.
The only thing that needs a bit of improvement is your auctions.
Not that it's bad, but I would suggest putting in more marketing effort; it's a well-built and well-structured page, but not so much attention.

I also like that you often have coupons, I would be glad to see some coupons for bigger transfers (quantity-wise), and I am willing to move 70% to Dynadot.
And thanks for your excellent support!

Best

Are you referencing the User Auctions or just our Expired/Registry Auctions? And were you looking for promotion on Newsletters or just on the site itself for them?

If you are looking to do some large transfers, please DM me and I can always see if we can get you a discount :)

Hi @Dynadot - The ability to list domains from other registrars on your marketplace is a great new addition. I have just one observation and feature request.

In the "Other Registrar" tab under the "For Sale" column - currently when a domain is successfully listed on the marketplace - it is shown with a "Buy Now" hyperlink. It would be great if the price at which it is listed is also made visible in the same view or another column can be added to the view to enable this. This is already done for domains already owned at Dynadot. Would supercharge the experience IMO! Thanks.

Seems easy enough! Let me check with our design team to see if we can get that coded up.

Thanks for the input!

They are slowly threading the paths of GD .Showing their appraisal to my names is what I do not like .I noticed their prices too on their .Com is higher than GD and I am weighing my options.

@Dynadot your appraisal service changes prices by thousands of dollars every other day. What is the point of an appraisal if in the same week I was supplied $3,971, $1,024 and now $1,527 for the same name? With changes so frequently and by such a large amount, how is this info supposed to be of any use to a domainer? And this is just one subtle example. Others change by tens of thousands (for example, 2 days ago, $718 appraisal. Today $36,458). Can you supply any rationale for this? If not, perhaps some adjustments to your ai are in order.
