Used the Gname backorder service for the 1st time. Very cumbersome process, requiring one to Paypal $1.34 to get a $1 which is required to backorder a name. Apparently this $1 is frozen once you apply it to a backorder. Fine. But they didn't catch the backorder and the $1 remains frozen. I reached out to their CS and they said it can take up to 3 days before they identify they didn't get the backorder and to unfreeze the $1 so I can use it to backorder again. Pretty frustrating process and you lose $.34 for every $1 you send them

Obv, I could just deposit another $1.34 to get a $1 (yea, they don't take credit cards for these deposits), but since this is my first time trying them I'd rather not deposit all these funds only to find out they keep losing to dropcatch. So I guess I have to play the backorder game with them every 3-4 days since they are super slow to identify and unfreeze. Just an fyi for those who are thinking about using Gname's backorder service.

Hi NameGroove,

Thank you for sharing your experience with our backorder service. We apologize for any inconvenience you've encountered during this process. We'd like to address your concerns:

  1. Initial Deposit Process: We understand that the requirement to use PayPal to deposit $1.34 for a $1 credit can be cumbersome. This process is in place to cover transaction fees, but we are continuously looking for ways to streamline and improve it.
  2. Frozen Funds: When you apply the $1 to a backorder, it is temporarily held to ensure availability. If the backorder is not successful, the $1 should be released back to your account. We are currently working on reducing the time it takes to unfreeze these funds to make the process smoother for our users.
  3. Customer Support: Our customer support team is committed to assisting you. If the process takes longer than expected, please reach out again, and we will do our best to expedite the resolution.
  4. Service Improvement: Your feedback is valuable, and we are always striving to enhance our services. We are exploring options to accept direct credit card payments and reduce the transaction fee burden on our users.
We appreciate your patience and understanding. If you have any further questions or need assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us directly.

Best regards,
The Gname Team

You want to streamline and improve the deposit process? Accept credit cards. And no other service (DropCatch, Catched, etc) charges us for transaction fees. Cost of doing business.

Re frozen funds - you need to move much faster. 3 days to get the deposit back so i can dropcatch again is way too long. No competing service has such a thing.

Hello NameGroove,

Thank you for your valuable feedback. We appreciate your suggestions on how we can improve our deposit process.

Regarding credit card acceptance, we understand the convenience it provides and are actively exploring this option to enhance user experience. Your point about transaction fees is noted, and we are committed to finding solutions that do not pass these costs on to our users.

We also acknowledge your concern about the speed of refunding frozen funds. Our goal is to ensure the fastest and most efficient service possible. We will review our current processes and work towards significantly reducing the wait time for refunds to allow for quicker participation in drop catching.

Thank you for helping us improve our service. We appreciate your patience and continued support.

Best regards,
The Gname Team

After creating an account, why is it necessary to provide a Skype, WhatsApp, or Telegram number to provide/update my account information?
If I provide you with a phone number why do I also need to have one of these other services?

Also curious about domain whois privacy:

1) Is it offered when purchasing domains through GNAME? I can't find information about whois privacy on your site or in your "help center" area. This might be because I'm searching in English?

2) If domain privacy is available, is there a way to turn it on or off and also an area to see which domains have whois privacy enabled or not?

@GNAME.COM

I have many comments about functionality and English translations on your site. I thought about sending my comments via e-mail, but since you have this public thread here - I might as well share these issues so that others might see them too or have things to add.

Credit card payments:
1) That I have seen, there isn't mention that to use credit cards - you have to preload your account with funds to be used.
2) The "Recharge" section. I think there needs to me more information and communication to users as to what this section is and why it is needed. Explain the word "recharge" and that it means to fund your account with preloaded funds.
3) "Recharge person's information". This needs to be more clear as to what this is used for. For instance, adding a person here and entering credit card information does not allow a user to "recharge" their account with a credit card. A user still has to go through your process which currently goes to stripe payment processing where the user has to enter all their credit card details again. So why is it needed in two places?
4) When "recharging" an account with funds, the screen before stripe payment shows currency conversion. It would be helpful if it showed the user's own default currency of what they will actually be charged. Currently, it shows the transaction in SGD.

Site functionality related to browser tabs:
1) When clicking through many areas of my account, after being logged in, there are many times where a click will open a new browser tab. Currently, after exploring areas of my account, there are now 12 GNAME tabs open. It would be helpful if links navigated within one tab, rather than opening multiple new tabs.

My domains section:
1) For registered domains, if you click on a domain it goes to a new screen. Under "domain information" there is a status of "protected" or "unprotected". Under "Domain Function" there is an option for "Domain name protection" where a user can select "protected" or "unprotected". What exactly is this function doing? There should be more clarification to the user explaining what this does. (examples: preventing or allowing domain transfer, enable or disable whois privacy, prevent or allow some other changes, etc.)

English Translations / Usability:
This only applies to users you are trying to cater to, or bring in, that use English as their primary language.
It would help if you had some individuals with English as their native language go through your site and menu options and then have them help you update the word choices for individual areas. I don't say this to be mean, English is my native language and I mess it up all the time.

Right now things don't seem polished. There are lots of times where I am pausing to try and figure out what an area means or what a sentence is trying to convey. This isn't good. I'm trying your company out mainly because of your dropcatching service where you seem to have a lot of strength. If you didn't have this as a current pull for me, I wouldn't be taking the time to go through and try and figure out how to navigate your site, deal with the currency conversion, figure out what things mean, etc. Again - not to be mean - just trying to give helpful constructive critisim. Much of your site provides good info, it just needs some polish with word choices and functionality.

Questions about Backorder, Dropcatch, and Auctions:

1) For an example, if two people place a backorder for the same domain and they both place a backorder for the highest success rate channel. If the dropcatch is successful, it will go to auction. When the auction is over, does the winner pay for the backorder channel fee + the final auction price? Or, does the auction winner only pay the final auction price and get refunded the deposit for the backorder channel fee?

2) Are backorders public or private for individual domains? As in, can users see when there are currently other backorders for a domain and what channel the backorders are at?

Not only preload - but you must pay a fee to do so (so when you load with $10, it costs you more than $10). Gname's UI is, as you correctly show, a mess. Sections are incredibly hard to understand and the whole website is almost unusable. I gave up and moved elsewhere

Thank you for your inquiry. Here's the information regarding WHOIS privacy:

  1. WHOIS Privacy Availability
Yes, WHOIS privacy protection is available when purchasing domains through GNAME. You can find more details by navigating to Other > Whois or directly via this link: https://www.gname.com/whois.
  2. Managing WHOIS Privacy
WHOIS privacy is enabled by default for all domains. If you would like to turn it on or off for specific domains, you can request this by submitting a support ticket.
For more information, please refer to: https://www.gname.com/whois.

Hello tld4me,

Thank you so much for taking the time to provide this detailed feedback. We greatly appreciate your constructive criticism, as it helps us improve both the functionality and user experience of our platform. Let me address the points youโ€™ve raised:

Credit Card Payments

  1. Preloading Funds Requirement
You're rightโ€”currently, users need to preload their accounts with funds to use credit cards, and we understand this isnโ€™t clearly communicated. We will work on updating the relevant sections to explain this process better.
  2. "Recharge" Section
We appreciate your suggestion regarding clearer communication about the "Recharge" section. We will consider adding a brief explanation to clarify that "Recharge" refers to preloading your account with funds and why this step is necessary.
  3. "Recharge Person's Information"
This section is intended to store payer information for record-keeping purposes, but we acknowledge that the current implementation and description may be confusing. We are reviewing ways to improve this area and reduce redundant steps, such as re-entering credit card details during the Stripe process.
  4. Currency Conversion
We understand your concern regarding the currency display before processing payments. Showing the user's default currency would indeed improve transparency and reduce confusion. We'll forward this suggestion to our development team for implementation.

    Domain Protection Clarification
The "Domain name protection" feature refers to locking or unlocking the domain to prevent unauthorized transfers or changes. We acknowledge that this needs to be explained more clearly to users. Weโ€™ll work on adding a brief explanation in the "Domain Function" section so users can better understand what selecting "protected" or "unprotected" does.

Your feedback regarding your experience is incredibly valuable. We understand how important it is for users to navigate a site easily, especially when dealing with complex processes like domain management and dropcatching. We're constantly working to improve, and your comments will help us make the necessary changes to better serve you and other users.

Thank you again for sharing your experience. If you have additional feedback or questions, please don't hesitate to let us know.

Hello NameGroove,

Thank you for your feedback, and we apologize for the inconvenience youโ€™ve experienced. We understand your concerns regarding the preload fees and the user interface. We're continuously working on improving both the fee structure and the overall design of the website to make it more user-friendly. We truly appreciate your input and hope you'll consider giving us another try in the future as we make these improvements.

@GNAME.COM

Thank you for responding to many of my questions/comments.

Your site has lots of promise. I think if you continue to expand your "Help Center" area with tutorials in English and polish up some of the other areas in functionality, your English speaking customer base will grow.

People are rude, but you have to impress the customer for them to change their behaviors and use your service. Many of your competitors have many of these functions established and working easily. The sooner you can make things smoother for your customers through your user interface and tutorials, the more customers you'll get.

The opening of new tabs for most clicks is a big deal. That should be something worked on right away to eliminate.

I hope to make use of your services. Please keep improving! (y)

Hello tld4me,
1. Auction Pricing and Fees
If multiple users place a backorder for the same domain through the highest success rate channel and the dropcatch is successful, the domain will go to auction. After the auction ends, the winner only needs to pay the final auction price. If the winning bid is $500 and the backorder channel fee is $7, the fee will be deducted from the final amount, meaning the winner will pay $493.

2. Backorder Visibility
Backorders for individual domains are private, meaning users cannot see how many backorders exist for a domain or which channels other users have selected. This ensures that the backorder process remains competitive and confidential.

We hope this answers your questions. If you need further clarification, feel free to reach out!
