the US goverment has this www.whitehouse.gov as their official site

but these guys

www.whitehouse.com= a pornographic Web site,
and www.whitehouse.org= a satirical site.

doesnt the govt have power to claim trademark infrigement????
or is it because these sites runs "different" business?

everybody(almost) know that whitehouse is the seat/home? of the US govt!!!

does that mean that if i can get google.org(e.g.) and put up a web site with a totally different "content".....from google it is all right?

very confusing:(

This is a really good question redhippo, I remember there was some kind of news report about the whitehouse.com one and the guy who owned it. But for the thing about having power, that's a really good question and I wouldn't know really.

whitehouse.com have been in business for over 5 years since the last time I visited their site by accident. Frankly I don't think the government give a shit who take whitehouse.whateverextension cuz if they did they'd have bitched about it already.

based on Uk domain law - unless the said domain conflicts or would have a derogetory affect on the other domain then this is not allowed and one domain would have rights over the other - but who has more rights in this case is to be discussed!
personally i prefer semi naked ladies over goverment policy!!
