I'm looking for your domain name registrar recommendations, please. Who do you use (and what's the charge)? I use:

www.directnic.com, $15/year

However, I eventually will be purchasing a lot of domain names, so I am considering moving to a different registrar. DirectNIC has been good to me though. I've never any problems, yet.

In no particular order: Namecheap ($8.88), Moniker ($18.99), Domainsite ($6.99
to $7.99, depends what plan you choose).

This question is arguably the most asked in domain forums. :D

If I get this right, the $6.99 plan does not include DNS (so you cannot point it to a website), and the $7.99 plan includes DNS. I'm looking at their services page: http://www.domainsite.com/services.php

I figured as much! I probably should have just asked what registrar everyone is using... not which one they recommend!

I recommend registering domains through Namecheap, or here at Namepros. Both around the same price, Namepros is a little cheaper.

I like Domainsite and Dynadot.

You can change the NS with the $6.99 plan at Domainsite, so you can use Zoneedit or Mydomain to do url forwarding and email forwarding.

namecheap
moniker

enom, namecheap, godaddy, namepros

haven't had any problems with any of those yet, I do prefer enom or a enom reseller, you can grab a free enom account above under domain services/enom account creator as namepros is a enom reseller and it will give you cheaper prices then buying directly from the enom site.

I am still unclear as to the difference between the $6.99 and $7.99 deals on domainsite.com:
http://www.domainsite.com/check_our_pricing.php

$6.99
Basic 1 Year Domain Registration

$7.99
Standard 1 Year Domain Registration with Email Forwarding, Domain Forwarding, and DNS Management Tools

So, can I point my "$6.99 deal" domain name to my nameserver? Or is it just for "holding" purposes, and non-functional?

And what about GoDaddy? They are insanely popular, jugding the alexa ranking of the site. $8.95/yr is a bit more expensive than those already listed.

You can change the DNS to another nameserver on both for free - On the 6.99 one you cannot do web-fowarding for free.

6.99 is the Basic registration only with no frills :)

Ok, I am going to give domainsite.com a shot. Is there anything I am missing? $6.99 for the basic reg seems like an excellent price!

As long as I can point my domain to my nameserver(s), I can put up a live website, setup emails on the server, etc. (Am I correct?) I'm just double checking! :)

I am using that registrar and am very satisfied. $6.79 for large portfolio.
