Hello,

I just read the below information from WHT ( http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=742098 ). Sorry for cross-posting, but I have account with DirectNIC and never receive any official information. This made me unsure, since as a customer I never receive any important message like below. But at other hand, is the message true from DirectNIC or not. :)

Please advice.

=========== News from your Domain Registrar ============

==================== directNIC.com =====================
-------------------- WE ARE MOVING! --------------------

On December 23, 2008 Intercosmos Media Group, Inc., a Delaware Corporation, you know us as directNIC, will be transferring its ICANN registrar accreditation to a directNIC, LTD, a Cayman Islands company. The people who brought you directNIC will still be there to provide you with the same great service you have always received at the same website: http://www.directnic.com/

WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO DO?

You don't have to do anything, if you want to keep receiving the same great value and service that directNIC has always given you.

In two weeks, directNIC, LTD will become the registrar for your domain names. You will be agreeing to its terms of service. There will be no interruption in your services and the transition will be seamless to you.

We really hope you choose to stay with us and continue to use the great services that we have always offered you and will continue to offer you. If you don't want to keep receiving the great value and service that directNIC has always provided, you can transfer your domain names to another registrar within the next two weeks and directNIC, LTD will not be your registrar.

DO YOU HAVE QUESTIONS?

If you have any questions, please let us know by emailing us at [email protected]

==================== directNIC.com =====================
This was a required email message according to ICANN regulations.
========================================================

The message:
"If you don't want to keep receiving the great value and service that directNIC has always provided, you can transfer your domain names to another registrar within the next two weeks and directNIC, LTD will not be your registrar."

As a business, they should not post anything like that. :)
It look like they suggesting their customers to leave them. :(
So I would like to know more about this issue.
Is it true or fake?

It looks like Directnic is just changing it's accreditation so they are based out of the Cayman Islands to get away from U.S. jurisdiction. This could be a good thing.

as a business, i think the more they need to post like that, consider it as a headsup, it's a healthy sign, they're giving you still 2 weeks to decide.

the only way for me to verify if it's true or fake, forward that whole email make sure you include the complete email headers to the email mentioned above in your first post. they will tell you if it's real or fake.

One is certainly free to believe whatever they want to believe. But it doesn't
necessarily help anyone to convey a message, in their chosen words, what is
otherwise stated in one's email or so.

On the side, there was another WHT thread of someone asking why DirectNIC's
WHOIS privacy service uses a Cayman address. One of their supposed people
replied saying they've setup an address there, so the email you posted here is
probably true.

It remains to be seen if that's truly a smart move. Time will tell.

The email was sent out the a few customers, since we needed to test a new mailing system. It was the sent from directNIC. Due to feedback from the letter, it's being re-written and the transfer date has been changed.

We will resend the letter in a week or two to everyone.

That was actually an ICANN requirement. We are required to tell current customers that the accrediation is changing and that would need to transfer if they don't want to be with the new registrar. With this change, the customer impact is near-zero. Even after the change, if you aren't happy, you'd be able to switch just like before.

Thanks,
Michael

The words could have been picked better, but the message is required by ICANN. It doesn't help to have your legal dept doing the announcement writing. :)
