I bought 10 domain names about 2 weeks ago. All of them contain "Magento" in it.
Yesterday, I got an email from Magento's Legal team titled "Your Unauthorized and Infringing Domain Name Registration". In it they threaten that if I use those domains they can suit me and I can get a fine for $100.000
I am a newbie in this area, can anyone give me some advice? Please, I am very confused now!

Magento seems like a highly trademarked term. Having said that, UDRP and court rulings about domain names are so inconsistent, it's hard to know what to do in any situation.

In your situation, it would seem best to not keep these names. Would you mind my asking how much you paid for the names?

Hmmm, 2 brand new posters...each with less than a dozen messages. That's a bit suspicious. Anyway, this really belongs in the legal discussion forum. And OP, what was your point in buying these domains? You hand registered all 10?

Everyone is a new poster at some point.

You should consult a lawyer, I believe.

They seem like an aggressive bunch. Just offer them the names and move on. Lets be honest, the names you bought are probably not that good so why even bother? Offer them the names or grace delete them if possible.

We've had a lot of new posters making spam posts all over the board lately. Just like Chelsea that replies 1 minute after you. Anyway, it seems like the OP has disappeared for now.

The only potential spam from Chelsea is a spam for lawyers. If that's the case, we'd see names of specific lawyers get dropped.

As a developer I can tell you that Magento is a huge player in the CMS market.

It is an e-commerce platform that has been around for a long time.

You have a new account and so I will assume you are new at this.

This is a trademark of Magento.

Here is the URL to their licensing page and what they have to say about what you have done.

This is from their licensing page.

"Can I use the Magento trademark in one of my domain names or URLs?"

"No. You may not use the Magento trademark or any other mark associated with the Magento offering from our company in your domain name or URL. (For example, "ww/w/mage/nto/hosting/com" is not allowed)."

Do not register TM names!

There are exceptions, but that is too complicated to highlight here.

Do some research of your own if you want to learn more.

And don't buy names without a very good reason...

These threads are fascinating to me, because the common theme is "I registered these names, and now...", as if the poster was possessed by otherworldly forces which caused this to happen.

The relevant question, as pointed out above, is "why?" For what purpose or reason did you happen to register 10 domain names with "magento" in them? What was the plan?
