I am curious if a domain is at a register you might not like, if it means you will not buy the domain. Some registers that some people claim to hate are (dotster, and fasthost) however, hated registers may vary. Question is if a domain is at a register you don't like will you not buy it?

Depends on the domain, price of the domain and its potential. Great domain at a great price, probably don't care.

I usually buy domains and send them to Godaddy as I believe its probably one of the more easier Registrars to deal with, especially when it comes to sale / enduser purchase. If it's an okay domain, I will wait till right before it expires and transfer it to godaddy...

Enom would be my second choice after godaddy...

I was about starting this thread Last week.whoever uses domain registrar as a yardstick for quality names will definitely lose out. Loads of quality names are registered with the so called fasthost/dotster

For me. I definitely have preferences. It is a very rare occasion indeed that I would bid on a domain that is not currently available for transfer to another registrar. It would need to be a very special name for me to do that. Probably 1:1000. And even then it would depend on the registrar. I don't want to sit around for 2 months waiting until I can transfer the domain to my preferred registrar, Dynadot. I want to buy and transfer all domains immediately to Dynadot. Done and Dusted. Move on. It seems such a waste of time and management control to intentionally delay the transfer. I decided, I'd prefer not to do it.

If it's a registrar with a reputation for blocking transfers (1 and 1 used to have this reputation), then I wouldn't buy until it was moved to a different registrar, and I could accept a push.

For me, it does. I try to avoid dotster and similar ones because of bad experience and bother only if it is worth transferring out right away. With small registries I could just forget about the names, due dates etc.

    Registrars of preference: GD, Google.

I'm sure like everyone else I have my preferred registries and some that I don't particularly like but it won't be a deal breaker for me, if I want the domain then it won't matter what registry it is with. The only one that I will not deal with, the one I absolutely hate with a passion is 1&1 domains. They should be shut down...

If I am 50/50 on a domain that is not at one of my preferred registrars I may avoid it, so for me, yes the registrar does contribute, If I am at Godaddy and like a name I will check to make sure it is registered at Godaddy before proceeding any further, I have purchased in the past and names that are not regged at Godaddy quite often are old listings and I don't get the name

Yes, I think it definitely plays a part in most domain investors interest of a particular domain in auctions, as I have noticed on a few occasions here on NamePros, good names with lukewarm interest if they are registered at certain registrars! There is even one member who has a disclaimer in his signature panel that he won't buy names registered at 2 particular registrars! As I have names registered at 12 registrars, I can attest that some are great and others are not so good when it comes to ease of use, customer service, transfers, pushes and pricing!

I really dislike Network Solutions. I don't know if it would necessarily stop me from bidding on a pre release name, but it would certainly annoy me to know it was going to be at Net Sol. I would just be prepared to transfer it out immediately.

I just renewed a name there that I got on Namejet last year... $36 for a .com renewal!. Then I went to set up a redirect to my portfolio page and.. what?.. another $12.99 to add a redirect!? Something that pretty much every other registrar does for free and they want more money, and after charging me triple the standard price for my renewal! Crazy greed there!

Buyer can tranfer him to another register. If a transfer price is high, i will not buy a domain.

It won't break a deal for me if it's at a registrar I don't like, and if it's a domain that I'm planning on building into a website it's less of an issue as you don't have to get into the backend a lot to make changes. I do however try to transfer out when it's close to renewal time though if it's something at dotster or 1&1 or the like.. some registrars just have really overly complex (to the point that they are a PITA) control panels. I prefer name cheap over any of them..

If I'm undecided about making an offer or bidding though, I do consider the registrar, it's normally my coin flip..
"It's at Name Cheap? Ok.. I'll throw out an offer"

Yes'r, I have some at Name Silo, it's not bad, feels "Go Daddy-ish" to me. I just really like how simple Name Cheap layout is. Name Silo is good enough though that I wouldn't transfer out like I would some others.
