.tv Do NDA Sales Really Matter At The End Of The Day For .Tv

Hi,

We keep hearing how NDA sales are happening, some people love saying how they kill .tv... I have strong views on this subject but will say this-nda sales do not wreck the image of .tv, let the people decide(buyer and seller) if its the right route to take and respect there views on there privacy IMO. Sometimes people just dont want to be outspoken or take the spotlight. I respect NDA sales very much and wish more people did as well. I would love to see more xxx, xxx sales in .tv and reported( yes I know I said this but I respect NDA and I dont dislike people who do nda sales, If I had a xx, xxx sale in the future I probably would do an nda but thats just me). When I buy things in private, I tell the person I want to keep this in private and consider this an nda. Thats just me, I dont need to brag or announce everything I do. Great but the end of the day all that matters is that .tv is doing well, if your happy with what you own, things are being developed and people are happy and content with .tv imo.

I decided form this on public forum for the newer people to post and lets get a good discussion going on. Please refrain from personal conflicts, respect peoples view points and dont go on the attacks.

Looking forward in reading peoples responses and .tv is forming very well WORLDWIDE IMO. There is no right answer imo to this.

On this I agree wholeheartedly, the same way that reporting a high price to a journal that is primarily read by non-end-users doesn't make any extension more or less valuable.

It is no more than a feel good massage to people holding the extension. Ray said so many times and it bears repeating again(paraphrase):

The enduser determines the value of any domain name one will sell, nothing less, nothing more.

You agree to the endusers price, that is exactly what it was worth at that time. NDA, journals and the like have no bearing to me. If I get an offer with an NDA in it, it would be the same price if there was no NDA attached, if you know what I mean. As a courtesy to fellow domainers, entering a sale on a journal may make for good news, but endusers in general don't read this, and it's endusers I look for.

that's about the bulk of what I feel about NDA agreement and journal entries. One gets sidetracked not concentrating on the enduser.

I KNOW there ARE NDA's on some bIG sales and there are NDA's on some distressed sales - both for different, but related reasons. Indeed, I was once asked, as buyer, not to publicise a purchase I made!!

I don't think it matters because there seem to be enough publicised sales these days for people to get a feeling for the general market conditions.

That said, I do think that the idea of there being massive NDA sales all over the show is mostly about hype and puffing up the market.

Yes, there are some very large PROVEN sales (like JohnTVs recent , and brilliant, RT.tv sale) but unless others are publicised, or you can trust the source that informed you, then you have to assume they don't exist!

We have to look at facts - not hyperbole.

And the facts suggest that there really are .TV names that can be sold for 150 times there purchase price in less than a few weeks.

I am not saying that NDA sales hurt .tv at all and really make no difference in the long-run. However, the more sales reported, the more it helps .tv. More exposure is better. We all know what is happening .tv in this forum but it's for the others outside of this forum which it gives most value to.

For example, I know some newbies in the domain industry who e-mailed me and know I invest in .tv, and said they saw RT.tv sale and they want to get in on the .tv action before it's too late. I know these are not end-users but from people entering the domain industry or looking at .tv. Therefore, reported sales
excite many new people in the industry who will become future .tv (ers).

What really helps the industry is when we hear of sites kicking ass like
Justin.tv and also when we hear about reported sales like John's RT.tv.

Thanks, Jim

They happen in all extensions and everyone knows it, .tv is no different. At the end of the day though what is reported is the best indication of the strength of an extension. People sometimes argue along similar lines for .com as well that the market would be stronger if all those NDA sales were reported, it is all a waste of time, the market is what it is.

After the sales or "reported sales" ... NDA or otherwise ... what should matter most - at the end of the day - to enthusiasts (whether in the .TV or any other new, newer, or favorite extension) should be what resides on that previously sold or "reported sold" domain name website for content ie., stand-alone development! :yell: :talk: :imho:

Just my two sense.

I hate to say this because I know a lot of good honest domainers (like JohnTV for example) have made large sales by NDA, however I always have a bit of skeptic in me when I see some people claiming to keep getting large sales which they can't report in extensions or market segments which don't see a large number of sales and could benefit from the hype generated from them. Reported sales certainly hold more weight imo unless the claimed sale with NDA is coming from a very reputable source.
