How do I transfer my domain to directNIC from another registrar?
Before you transfer your domains, it is very important for you to check the following things at
www.directnic.com/whois:
1. The domain contact: The confirmation email is sent to the administrative contact listed in the WHOIS at the time you submit the transfer. You need to follow the instructions included in that email. If you don't have access to the admin contact email, you need to change it immediately and submit the transfer AFTER the change is propagated on the Internet WHOIS. Please note that for .EU domains, the confirmation email is sent to the registrant contact instead of the administrative contact.
2. The creation date: Domain must be 60 days old before it can be transferred to another registrar.
3. The expiration date: Expired domains cannot be transferred. We strongly recommend you transfer your domain at least 10 days before it expires.
4. The registry status: The domain must be active. If the domain is on registry lock, you need to unlock the domain before submitting the transfer.
To transfer your domain names follow these instructions:
1. Log into your account at
http://directnic.com/myaccount/.
2. Click on "Domain Transfers" link under the "Basic Options" section. (The direct URL is
https://secure.directnic.com/myaccount/register/transfers.php)
3. Enter in the names of the domains you would like to transfer to directNIC. You can enter up to 50 at a time.
4. Choose a contact you would like to use. If you do not have the contact set up yet, you need to add a new contact. Please refer to the question "how do I add a new contact in my account." Click on the "Submit Transfer List" button.
5. Verify that all of your information is correct and click on the "Purchase Transfer Request" button.
6. Enter your payment information and click on the "Purchase Domains" button. The US$15 charge, for one year's registration, will be tacked on to the amount of time you have left with the other registrar(except for .eu domains, which will begin a new one-year registration only once the domain is successfully transferred).
You will then receive several emails. The billing receipt and the transfer instruction will be sent to the e-mail address listed in your directNIC account. An authorization email will be sent to the e-mail address listed for the administrative contact in the WHOIS records for the domain being transferred . Please note that for .EU domains, the confirmation email is sent to the registrant contact instead of the administrative contact.
This email includes a URL for you to confirm the transfer. You will need to enter the transfer auth code obtained from your current registrar. Your current registrar might also send their own authorization emails to the domain administrative contact. Please confirm the transfer as soon as you receive the emails. The transfer process can take 5 to 10 days to complete.
Note: ALL domain extensions now require you to obtain the authinfo code from your current registrar and then enter it in the proper field when you approve the transfer as the administrative contact. We currently do not process incoming transfers of .tv, .ws and .cn domains.
Your hosting information will remain as the same during or after the transfers. Your website will not be affected during the transfer as long as your hosting company continues to host your site after the transfer.
If you would like to change your hosting status and let directNIC host your site, you will need to set the nameserver to directNIC default in your account after the domain is transferred.
