They love to gamble. Gambling is not allowed in China so they have to find other ways to make bets.
They like to buy $1 domains and hype them up in order to dump them.
Money laundering. They don't care if it is profitable if they can hide their monies.
Newbies with little experience and too much money.

China has large population and large (potential) demand.

maybe they know something that you don't know! maybe!
and if we buy something cheap and sell high, it will be less risk! rather than buy high and hard to sell! it will be more risky! but to be honest I never heard asian ppl when make a move have good reason! most of the time, they only tell, I have good feeling! i.e gambling!

I'm just saying gambling is allowed in China, you're wrong per your comment that gambling isn't allowed in China. :lookaround:

Hong Kong and Macao are special regions and not part of Mainland China and treated differently.

Chinese can gamble when they go on vacation there. One of the main reasons why Macao is so popular as a Chinese tourist destination.

For over 99% of the Chinese population Gambling is not permitted unless they happen to visit Macao or if it is part of a state run lottery.

Is there any reliable data on purchase of ngtlds by Chinese or its just an assumption?

Buy in is cheap, and potential upside is very high. Especially if someone manipulates the market like last year.

However risk is very high, and China has a hefty appetite for high risk investments.

Many Chinese investors are 'newbs', as demonstrated by last years CHIP fiasco. People buying CHIP 4L.com's for a floor price of $3k - GTFO :xf.rolleyes:. Keep in mind that this year is not over yet, and after summer these CHIPS are highly likely to continue their decent back to $xxx.

A lot of money was lost with CHIPs, and will be lost again by speculating on crap gTLD extensions that nobody wants.

If gTLDs were so amazing, you would see a huge sales increase in the existing aged not-coms... but you don't.

Invest at your own risk.

Yesterday .WIN sales: 10,279
China: 10,109 (99,5%)

most interesting to me are the IDN, there's more than a handful in the top 100 ngtld and they not cheap to reg. If you remove all the $1 or less extension then some IDN look pretty strong.

I am not sure about that! if chinese buy dot CM, just like your thread doesn't mean they know something that we don't know! maybe if they start to buy dot, In! I will change my mind ;) or maybe they buy dot us, like US bond! then I will surely change my mind! that they know something! :)
