My prediction for 2016 in the Chinese market.

Savvy investors will realize the rarity of N-N-N-L and L-N-N-N domains and they will steadily increase in value. Remember there are 26 letters and only 10 digits. Remove the vowels, the letter V, and the #4 and there are only about 18,000 of each type. That's rarer than a 5 number domain and almost as rare as a 3 letter domain. I'm not saying there are worth as much as those 2, but they should be worth much more than what they are currently selling for and are one of the few Chinese interest domains that are undervalued in my opinion. Time will tell. Any thoughts?

I have actually found hundreds of these types of domains that developed in China. It is not pure speculation.

I agree with Hugo_strange - is there a link to this info to put it in perspective? "Dropped" is an odd term, do you mean a Chinese investor "sold" 2.8 mil in chips to another Chinese investor?

It is not a "true" story. If it is a true story, you will see 100% at the bottom of the article. DG is good source of entertainment as well as real news.

It's like the Onion for domains?

Ah, I use to read that blog on occasion sometime back, and I didn't know that tidbit about a "news" story requiring an icon at the bottom claiming to be true for it to be legit.

Just got reminded why I stopped reading it......

What happened in 2015 with domains and China was so big that no one really understands why or how. We can all guess and predict but no one knows for sure. My guess is 2016 will stay ok for domains and China.

This is mostly speculation but I THINK a big factor in the Chinese preferring NNLL & LLNN compared to the LNNN OR NLLL is pronunciation. Which would mean trying to guess patterns without speaking the native language is sorta like looking for a black cat in coal cellar." The Mandarin word for nine is an exact homonym with the word jiว” (ไน…), which means forever. Very positive, very valuableโ€ฆ" I think a persons best chance of predicting the next big thing in the chinese market is to start looking over that Rosetta stone. If you dont know what NLLL sounds like you're black cat hunting. "Generally, there is a lower value for numbers beginning in 0โ€™s or containing 4โ€™s (but not 4 of the same number like 8888 because thatโ€™s double double which is joy). " I wonder if the double double rule could contribute/apply to the NNLL success/popularity.?

I can find thousands of sites that are developed in China using a letter followed by 3 numbers or 3 numbers followed by a letter. Just type in random ones and you will see what I am talking about. That is enough data for me to see the upside in these type of domains. That fact that there are less than 15,000 of each of these types adds to the upside.
Now take 2 numbers with 2 letters or 2 letters with 2 numbers. You can also also find thousands of examples that are developed in China, which is great too. The difference is there are 32,400 of each, which are twice as plentiful as the variety with 3 numbers and just 1 letter.
I believe these are both on the rise, but in the long term I would think the one which are rarer/harder to acquire would be more valuable.
Time will tell, but all of these are undervalued in the current market in my opinion.

I am not sure if there is a list, but when I hand registered the ones I get in the spring/summer of 2015 I typed in the same numbers with different letters and for every number some of the letters before or after the number were developed. Many point to casinos or adult domains.

Many point to casinos or adult domains.

Does that mean I have to sell 759H.com in the Adult section?

J/K... Stuart were you able to tell which had more developed sites: NNNL or LNNN?

Funny my most viewed domain of the day is V391.com with 176 views :). It could be because V391 is a star roughly 4 times hotter than the sun but sounds like a great adult name too:p. Nice to see someone is looking at my only LNNN!

It is hard to tell, but I do know that when I was hand regging back in the spring and early summer, there were more NNNL than LNNN so perhaps the letter first is better at least for now.
