I noticed a domain name available for reg but was used for a games site few years back. How to check if a domain was previously used for any scam? As far as ai checked through web search there is none. But if there is any, would it affect me in any way if I register the domain?

Any website where I can easily check it?
Did a search on Ipvoid and it didnt show any issue.

Have you tried waybackmachine? Or you could check the ss% and then go through each linked url.

Anytime!

I believe you can click the dots at the top of the thread, then edit thread and change the prefix in title to answered. :)

As for what "SS%" is, that's "Spam Score %" which you can see at the first link in the list I posted above ;)

Fairly recently, I won a domain at a Namecheap auction with the domain ended being flagged by the registry rendering it unusable. Quote from the registry: "This domain has been flagged for violating our anti-abuse policies".
In short, it was on some blacklist somewhere on the planet and the registry felt it had to be blocked despite the domain having a new owner.

I wasn't able to remove the block, thus wasting the money I spent, so I'm using it as a test subject to test whether any tool can successfully detect the domain as blocked.

I hate to say it but none of the tools posted here show the domain as blocked/flagged. According to them, It is 'safe to use' and it also shows as having a 1% spam.

There are some comments showing on bbb.org but, checking each one of them, it seems they refer to different websites and not to my domain.

Imo, it is exceptionally difficult to find out whether a domain was used in whatever activity.

Did they specify which anti-abuse policy it violated?

It's possible, since it violated an internal registry policy, that it was never reported to the other spam, scam and malware databases.

To continue on the above, some policies that may not report to other databases, but could result in a registry pulling the domain back are:

DNS manipulation
Botnet abuse
Intellectual property violation
False whois

@Eric Lyon ,
not specifically. They only redirected me to China's Anti-Fraud Center (CAFC) so that I can resolve my case.
Those from CAFC never returned my attempts at communication so I just stopped bothering.
