How do you check a domain name's registrar history?

Hi,

How do you check a domain name's registrar history?

I know that domainTools has the option, but the subscription costs $15/month, and I don't really want to make the investment for just one domain I want to check.

It is a domain that was dropped and the purported previous owner is asking if I would sell it back. I don't really want to sell it, but probably would sell it back to the guy if he really is the previous owner (I have my doubts).

Not really, I would sell it back to the previous owner for as much as I was willing to pay for the domain name. I really liked it.
