It's amazing how complex language is, every letter has its place for a reason, and that is why, as you say, proper meaningful placement has to be considered. When the pronounciation of an alternative spelling is the same (as is often the case) then the aesthetics of the brand name could be considered even more important.

As another take on this, consider if you were wanting to promote something fast, light and easy to use, rather than feature rich and immersive, you would probably prefer a shorter version over a longer one.

I know it's a common font, but just by looking at the two spellings, your mind probably suggests to you that the top one if for a lighter, swifter, faster product \ experience:

Verdana
Verdanna

The extra 'n' seems to suggest something extra, perhaps more dense.

This area is so deep and complex though, that I suppose we are only scratching the surface.
In the above example adding an extra 'n' changes the sound of the word.

Verdana is pronounced 'Verdarna' and 'Verdanna' is pronounced 'Verd

I agree I don't like it when a name is already a big developed website. The most famous success IMO is Fiverr they did not have to worry about Fiver.com being well known to the world.

This got me wondering about top US .COMs and their last letter typo. Below is a snapshot of a sample report:

aasd.PNG

Interesting Notes:
  • Reditt.com (1998) is older than Redit.com (2005)
  • Twitterr.com redirected me to FaceBook.com at first (Cookie related?)
  • NamePross.com was dropped 5 times

A similar report detailing top repeating last letter dictionary domain / brand typos might be more helpful to this discussion. ie. Applee.com, Windowss.com, Amazonn.com, Livee.com etc...

I made a typo...original post had only 1 'd' in Reddit. The data was not affected: Redditt is older than Reddit.

The only one name that sold in that category is FORRCE.
I think this is rare case because it is 6L & strong keyword.

This is a really interesting sale to break down.

hello,

Recently I have received an email from the Managing Director of BrandBucket to suggest me listing one of my LLLL .com domains (a special one) on BB with their suggestion price near $10,000. Does anyone has BrandBucket Experience? Please let me know. Thank you very much.

LOL - This is a very intelligent question to ask in a 231-page thread titled: BrandBucket Experience

Agreed, my example probably wasn't the best.

The point I was trying to make is that when two words are phonetically the same, the altered spellings do change the perception of the brand.

Short answer, BrandBucket has successfully sold 4L.com
You have to give them exclusivity
30% commission, $10 listing fee and a logo fee paid if the domain sells.

None here. My portfolio is 312 domains and it's been 47 days since I had a sale.

It is not that straight forward. Overall, for most four letter names, brandable marketplaces are not as great.

If BB suggested $10,000, I am assuming, the name could be reseller worth $500-1500.

Now compare with the cost of regular 5L, 6L brandable that costs $20-40 to acquire and list normally and its sales price of around $2000.

In other words, unless sell through % for 4L.com is much much higher (no such data has been presented so far, maybe @Dnbolt can help), you could as well make a quick sale of your 4L, buy 20-40 approved 5L,6L names and list them there.

You have to realize that once listed, it has to sell through the marketplace (you can delist with 30 day notice) and that can take zero to 20 years depending on your luck )

"Interestingly enough the domain caleidoscope(.)com being 2 letter keyword was listed and sold for a higher price."

Caleidoscope is a one word brandable based on "Kaleidoscope"

Ouch. That's close to 15,000 listing days without a sale. Not good. I'm over 11,000 listing days now :-/

Interesting situation.

An end user effectively decided they didn't want to pay my BB list price but clearly liked the logo and the name (it's a made up word).

So much so they set up a social meda page with the BB logo design for my name, registered a business name with the domain "name+keyword+keyword" website not yet active but registered long after I published mine. The logo is posted on their social media pages.

I got on to BB but I'm wondering if anyone has ever experienced something similar? I've held off contacting the culprit for now despite the temptation to pick up the phone and give them a piece of my mind. :)

Ok guys, let us just continue our discussion about BB experience.

I finally grabbed 2 domains with an extra letter on ExpiredDomains.net and submitted them to BB, we'll see if they get accepted.

The 2 domains are: Pikkas//com and Capaxx//com, the latter is an abandoned TM of Siemens Financial Services

Extra letter discussion above was for top dictionary keywords.
