I don't understand what does BB appraise and accept domain names. I have tried to apply some names (4L .com, brandnames) to BB, almost accepted but low price. I decided to reject to push them to "live" on BB. Now, I sold 2 names of them with very high value, much higher than BB appraised.

That's the problem with BB. Weak validation system is costing them serious money.. But to cover up the deficiency they will reply as follows: "it's not a best match for our audience".

It would be great if you could share more specifics here. That might help BB see the problems we're discussing. I honestly doubt they want to leave money on the table either.

@Dnbolt, do you have some data about top 5-10 sellers at BB? I mean something like: total number of domains listed, number of sales by % and if you have an idea about the ROI. Thanks.

Sure will dive into it as soon as I clear up some bits and bobs...

From record it looks like the deficiency is more advantageous to the sellers. At least for me I have saved good sums.

Thank you for your comments. For more details, I am not able to explain in public here, sorry for inconvenience. I will tell you in PM if you want to know.

To back up some claims I decided to create a cohort graph of brandbucket and branroot last 2 chars sold frequency.

It is very interesting how Brandroot's sales are very nonlinear and BrandBucket's are the total opposite.

@Dnbolt why do you think that is?

That's because the order of 2 letters chars on the x axis was based on brandbucket's acceding order. Brandbucket and Brandroot has their own type of trends but I am interested to know which trends are true everywhere and cohort graph tells us this. But this is just one of about 7+ other factors so not entirely enough to draw a concrete conclusion.

Reason why I created this is because too many people have giving BB stacks of $10 which could equate to be about $8,000 in excess to just least their domains ending in "zo" which simply wouldn't sell anytime soon at least based on what I see now.

The amount of names ending in "zo" in brandbucket ranks 6th out of about ~480. Really?:-o
Goes to show the quality of their marketplace.

So @Dnbolt, I noticed that oceanhop showed up today on the BB sales list. Didn't this 'sell' before? Either I'm mistaken or the first sale didn't finalize.

It did not finalise as I stated before , I ran a data recovery. System crashed and had to restore.

Looks like BB just had a massive sale yielding them over $15k in commission (or 1500 listing fee's if you're an outsider who still pays for these)

WHOIS shows this domain under proxy so it's not clear who the seller was.

However, as of 5/21/2013, the domain owner was Francois, the owner of brandable marketplace Catchy.com and Domaining.com.

The seller is Michael Bilde, he sold other domains such as oodi-com, ooki-com for high price too, one of them which he bought very cheaply on namepros thread. I believe he wasn't so happy with one of my past top sellers series where I tabulated his names so perhaps on a defence mode? But a defence mode is simply asking for more radars to be setup.

Congrats on his sales. Almost all domain investors I know named "Michael" performs exceptionally well so I follow them.

So what is your name so I can follow you?

@Dnbolt @Grilled

But I'm not sure why he would list Keyo on BB. The domain could sell anywhere. I'm almost 100% sure that a simple landing page would have sold that domain, in which case he wouldn't have to give BB 30%. It's just a waste of $15K imo.

I guess we all have to know when to list on BB (or any other brandable marketplace) and when not to list.

Also by asking namebio to show itself we have: keyo.com 4,200 USD 2015-06-29 NameJet More examples here

In bb's defense, they give this seller front page premium listing coverage often. Rightfully so, as this seller lists some great domains, including a LLL.com. With such great domains, and length of membership, we can't confirm the seller pays 30%.

The seller, @oneventures has been a bb seller for as long as @margotb...

Yes, I am the registrant of keyo. First of all the sale is not confirmed yet, so let's wait for that :) Secondly, also remember that not all BB names are sold at their full listing price.

I pay 30 percent commission and always have. I don't know if other people manage to pay less. As to people who ask why not just sell directly instead of using BB? To that I will say that I have certainly tried that path. For more than 10 years at Sedo and by contacting potential end-users. In my case, BB has given me a better return even after the commission. So while BB might not work for everyone, it does for me.

Regarding using privacy, it is true that I don't have a particular interest in the whole world knowing what names I own. But I have nothing against DNBolt publishing sold names with prices.
