The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
@Dnbolt @Grilled

But I'm not sure why he would list Keyo on BB. The domain could sell anywhere. I'm almost 100% sure that a simple landing page would have sold that domain, in which case he wouldn't have to give BB 30%. It's just a waste of $15K imo.

I guess we all have to know when to list on BB (or any other brandable marketplace) and when not to list.

Looks like BB just had a massive sale yielding them over $15k in commission (or 1500 listing fee's if you're an outsider who still pays for these)

WHOIS shows this domain under proxy so it's not clear who the seller was.

However, as of 5/21/2013, the domain owner was Francois, the owner of brandable marketplace Catchy.com and Domaining.com.

Also by asking namebio to show itself we have: keyo.com 4,200 USD 2015-06-29 NameJet More examples here

In bb's defense, they give this seller front page premium listing coverage often. Rightfully so, as this seller lists some great domains, including a LLL.com. With such great domains, and length of membership, we can't confirm the seller pays 30%.

The seller, @oneventures has been a bb seller for as long as @margotb...

Yes, I am the registrant of keyo. First of all the sale is not confirmed yet, so let's wait for that :) Secondly, also remember that not all BB names are sold at their full listing price.

I pay 30 percent commission and always have. I don't know if other people manage to pay less. As to people who ask why not just sell directly instead of using BB? To that I will say that I have certainly tried that path. For more than 10 years at Sedo and by contacting potential end-users. In my case, BB has given me a better return even after the commission. So while BB might not work for everyone, it does for me.

Regarding using privacy, it is true that I don't have a particular interest in the whole world knowing what names I own. But I have nothing against DNBolt publishing sold names with prices.

Really appreciate you chiming in! Fingers crossed your sale goes through.

@oneventures - If you don't mind me asking, how did you first hear of BrandBucket?

The BrandBucket experience thread was started in 2013, and it appears you are one of their oldest sellers. You certainly have a very impressive portfolio FWIW.

Thank you!

I honestly don't remember how I got to know about BrandBucket, but I am pretty sure it must have been through a mention at NamePros or one of the blogs.

But I just checked my old emails, and my first listing there was xodo-com in February 2010, and Margot answered support questions personally :)

Margot's certainly an impressive woman! Many people don't know that she was accepted to all 8 Ivy league schools. More about that HERE

Thanks for clarifying @oneventures. I think it's good for more experienced BB sellers to chime in. It helps!

So, hopefully this post doesn't get deleted. However, I just wanted to let everyone know that I created a discussion thread for MatchSuite.com, the new brandable marketplace that was just launched by Ryan Colby. https://www.namepros.com/threads/matchsuite-com-brandable-marketplace-discussion.985727/

@Dnbolt , looks like you have a new project.

Thanks, just added to my watch list but not juicy enough to have them under my radar yet. Even If they don't make it rain like BR,BB,Nr and Nv it will still come in handy..

BB has just replied me with something as " We're happy to reconsider any of your rejected names and also open a discussion on pricing of any of your names."

I have sent and explained BB in details everything that I feel unhappy with their appraisals and the names they rejected. Hope that something workable and I will still submit my domain names.

Anyone knows the most popular Dictionary Keyword that startup's use in the start of their domain?

I have just received email from BB, they made all my domains submitted and accepted to have double price. Like: orri.com $14,995, kwis.com: $7,995...

Thanks for your input.. After waiting for hours :( with no response I decided to get my hands a bit dirty..

I had "the" second in rank followed by "my" which comes third in rank.

Not sure what you're checking but My has been #1 for many years.

A trip domain memory lane: MK post from May 23rd, 2015

I'm excited to announce that BrandBucket just completed the sale of R E S P O N S I V E . C O M very close to the $140K asking price. Pretty exciting stuff!

Just to be clear, this was NOT my name :)

A year and a half later, this domain still has BB NameServers. ie Free traffic for BB domains!

Who is this mystery buyer?
  • 1985: He worked at Arby's for three months.
  • 1992: He started EyeSupply out of his dorm room with $50.
  • 2004: Him and his wife funded his younger brothers movie, Napolean Dynomite.
  • 2012: He sold EyeSupply (otherwise known as 1-800-Contacts) for $900,000,000
  • Currently: Founder of Impossible Ventures & Partner at Capital Factory
Great little bio about the buyer: HERE

Time will tell what this rockstar entrepreneur will do with this domain, but until then, BB is the beneficiary of free traffic from a not for sale premium domain.

The buyers favorite quote: “The difficult we do now. The impossible takes a little bit longer.” – US Army Core of Engineers

Many people talk about premium keywords in sold data but never seen one mentioning about which keywords does well in the prefix or suffix area. A simple list is not enough. There are some great keywords that you really don't want to have at the suffix or prefix section.

Something to think about? codefluent.(com) vs fluentcode.(com)(sold)

I found @Keith DeBoer rules on two letter keyword which was published on dngeek.com His rule states the following:
Two keywords

  • Favor “strong” (in demand) keywords like media, tech, web, job, design, profit, career etc.
  • Know that the synergy between the two words is absolutely critical ie BlueIce.
  • Shorter is better. Try to keep your brands at 12 letters or less.
  • A third word is only OK if it’s a known phrase ie ShakeItUp.
  • Modifiers come first, nouns second. Buy FastHire not HireFast.
  • Avoid the temptation to buy names that modify an adjective as in SwiftSmart.

Points highlighted in red is NOT concrete for all cases.

Some sales this month,

tiny/mesh
m/o/n/t/l/y

And just going through escrow now:

hello/rookie
drive/let

Been a good month, a few smaller sales too, so all in all a great one.
Let's hope next month brings more.

Do not sell on BB anymore, I like to focus on my own business, seems to work for me.
