Not everyone is a fan of blog sites, but for those who have them, they can check out if their site made the list.

I think http://www.alexa.com is about the most well known traffic ranking site their is, atleast that I know of.

I don't know how the site that bobbi posted does their ranking, but I would imagine by traffic. :D

I read about alexa the other day. They use spyware to collect info off of your computer... i'm pretty sure this is how they determine your website ranking.

Where did you read that? I would like to see it. :D

From their website:
Alexa computes traffic rankings by analyzing the Web usage of millions of Alexa Toolbar users. The information is sorted, sifted, anonymized, counted, and computed, until, finally, we get the traffic rankings shown in the Alexa service. The process is relatively complex, but if you have a need to know, please read on.

What is Traffic Rank?
The traffic rank is based on three months of aggregated historical traffic data from millions of Alexa Toolbar users and is a combined measure of page views and users (reach). As a first step, Alexa computes the reach and number of page views for all sites on the Web on a daily basis. The main Alexa traffic rank is based on the geometric mean of these two quantities averaged over time (so that the rank of a site reflects both the number of users who visit that site as well as the number of pages on the site viewed by those users). The three-month change is determined by comparing the site's current rank with its rank from three months ago. For example, on July 1, the three-month change would show the difference between the rank based on traffic during the first quarter of the year and the rank based on traffic during the second quarter.

A while back when I had my good old spyware killer it would always erase the alexa toolbar I had. I wonder if that's why?

Probably, it looks like they did engage in some deceptive practices. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2001/05/30/tech/main293987.shtml

And it looks like they have now changed their privacy policy to make it clear that they engage in deceptive practices, another words, now that it's known that they are deceptive and greedy, they'll admit it so they don't get sued any more lol.... or something like that.

What i read was inside a spyware killer aswell. Basically it had the option to kill the Alexa registry entry and the caption for it said "The ALEXA-key is a browser-addin which collects personal data about your surfing habits. For more info go to the producers of ALEXA (www.alexa.com)." Thats about it.
