every professional web designer with REAL COMMERCIAL EXPERIENCE will recommend dreamweaver. There are alot of things that dreamweaver can save your life...some you might not realised it at this point. NVU is a cool free tool after dreamweaver i would say...

Absolutely dreamweaver. I can code by hand, I have used most programs out there, but I always open dreamweaver to edit a page, even for the small things :)

I have dreamweaver mx. I love it. But my main secret is photoshop .. I am mostly a designer than a coder, so a good image program is what i need. in the end I can use notepad to code the pages, but without photoshop I'd be dead ;)

The newest version of Dreamweaver is really great. Just make sure you have a good amount of ram and it should run fine. I like to split the window with half preview and half code. Best of both worlds. Their css editing and new tabs for windows make it even better. I recommend the free trial. It's very affordable to purchase if you are a student. Good luck.

Notepad. That way, you're in complete control of your code.

I have used Dreamweaver, and although powerful, I can develop quicker in Notepad so I tend to keep with what works for me. DW is great to start off with and learn how each page is structured. Then you should be progressing onto hand code.

If I were hiring a designer I'd want the design hand coded and also the PHP hand coded.

As for Graphics, I'm with Adobe CS but I like to keep graphics to a minimal. Who is interested in graphics loading, when the content is what we're really after?

I have been using top style lite a lot lately for CSS.
Its great, its like notepad with ability to see what the code will look like like at the same time. You should all check it out, its free, just good top style lite ;)

I would say go with Dreamweaver 8. I've been using it for some time now and it really works well and does the job.

All the best,

I would say Dreamweaver which is more of an advanced program. For a beginner in web designing Notepad is good as it would provide a clear understanding of the code which goes into it.

Notepad....cause what fun would it be if we didn't get to code everything up from scratch.....i use dreamweaver and it stays in code view.....if it weren't for its ability to check code validity I would probably still be using notepad.....
