It seems to me that the number of high quality (or even good quality) domains expiring / dropping has gone down significantly in the last 6 months or so. I browse the Namejet, Godaddy and Dropcatch lists frequently but very rarely find anything that I'm super excited about (although I don't really trade the 4L / numerics market). I was wondering if this is just me, or have others also noticed a significant drying up of the market?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Honestly, 100% correct. Now i coudn't find good domains on dropped list everynight like it used to.
The more terrible is : people now are so crazy to pay the unprofitable price for domains that listed on NameJet, GD Auctions ( Expired , Close out). I can't believe they could spend those money for normal-qualify names.
And of course, there are always gems on Dropped List, but it's too hard to catch them nowaday.

In my opinion, if i were you, i just registered SaferPro.com
Almost of your list are hyphened domains, it's too hard to find end-users to buy this kind of domain names ( except German, Japanese, Russian, French). And for other names, i coudn't find any end-users for them :(

I happen to be german
so a hyphen doens't look terrible to me at all

House-Power.com - 2 strong keywords related to electrical installation / solar
DressingBaby.com - baby is always a good market
DoggiShop.com - if you can't get a decent domain for your budget to sell dog related stuff - here you go
LaBeautePro.com - LA beauty shop - La Beaute - french for beauty
Solar-Finanzierung.com ( financing ) - yes huge market solor energy german way of writing
SaferPro.com - yes of course a great domain for a lot of uses
AboutBeverly.com - if you are beverly and want to position yourself online : get this one
SouthernLust.com - ;) just a beautiful name
Family-Fit.com - Fitness and Family how well do do want it to be?
BBW-Single.com - ;) no comment
ShirtsLA.com - TShirt is a huge market - why not in LA?
SolarInsite.com - yes solar is a no brainer
SoftFeets.com - softfeet.com is for sale at 100.00 with a very successful broker
Baby-UK.com - - another no brainer to me
ElevatedBeds.com - elderly care

Have you tested much less ? $100 , $200, $500 ?

I sold 1 at flippa 288 usd after inquiry
flippa is always low $-
I sold 2 at $488 BuyNow at my own platform
- most probably left money on the table-

the lower amount didn't lead to significantly more sales

Don't discount hyphenated sales, there is a market for them. They are not fast sellers but the market does exist... check out recent hyphenated sales here and check the frequency and selling prices (these are only the sales that are reported obviously): https://namebio.com/?s==QDOygDN3ETM
Thanks for the link. That apartment-rentals(.com) for $106 on GD seems like a bargain.

Hugedomains and registrars are not letting much slip through their fingers...I spend more time at GD close out now than at expired list. The quality at closeout is annoying, just slightly better. I do go more Than 2 weeks before seeing something worthy. I recently registered signslondon, fastestbusinessloans, riderbike from the closeout.

Hi Frank
What is your average price and % of domains sold within the first year of registration with that kind of domain ?

Hi Frank
What is your average price and % of domains sold within the first year of registration with that kind of domain ?

I can't tell you
as I am aquiring new domains and dropping domains
on a daily basis for years
so statistics are always incorrenct

I get frequent sales inquiries, but sales are random
as I focus on getting at least 4 figures usd or more

a year ago I was thinking differently
and focussing on 5 and 6 letter brandables .com
I sold a few of them meanwhile.
Some of them actually had decent parking income ( surprise )

Mostly it takes a few years for a sale.

Thanks Frank for these informations, have you tried playing with price to see at which price you have the best ROI ?

I got an sudden sale via afternic just a few days ago
where I'd set the buy now after inquiry to $1188 USD

so I am testing that price now for a while
my $3888 USD or $5888 USD may have been a little uneffecive ..

Hey Ian, assuming if the domain has been expired for a long time (over 1 year), will Google still pass the PR and link juice over to your site?

I think most of the link juice is due to the number and quality of backlinks to the domain. So if the domain retains the number and quality of backlinks the link juice should pass even after being expired for years.

maybe the domain owners just don't want to let them go ????

  1. Work smart not hard.
  2. Always expect change, to survive seek it.

Don't count on it. Google is smart enough to see if a domain was dropped. You might still get traffic from the old links, but probably very little organic search traffic for the new site.

after market commissions are creeping around 20% these type of factors really distract from reported domain sales, and what is actually received.

minus ( VAT ) taxes in some cases up to 50%
depending where you live

There are definitely still some kicking around. Maybe not high quality but got end-user potential.

Last week I managed to get BlogJunky and ThemeTune and just tonight I got TexasTemp and EliteRigs. All in .com and all aged 10 years+.

It's soooo addictive looking through expiring list :glasses:

Yeah, auctions are driving up the prices. I'm seeing plenty of average names being bid upon & prices driven up .. The same domains will not even sell here on NP for half the price.. I mean, the very same guys who are bidding there will not buy here. People are getting excited about drop auctions & driving up the prices.

If domainers are willing to bid up to $XXX in an expiring domain auction, why aren't they willing to pay the same price for an aftermarket domain listed at Godaddy, SEDO, etc?

To me I hand reg at go daddy! I really don't think about going there to buy after market. From a platform sense, it just seems off. Like it seems lifeless. I am sure that is weird for me to say. If I go to Ebay or Namepros it has a different feel. The energy just feels different. Granted this is coming from an educator that is trying to domain!

I agree completely - those places definitely seem more mechanical; however, the main GD selling platform is a simple, highly effective design. It`s definitely structured that way for a reason - or neglect.

The only wisest word I have seen in the forum... people talk too much, reveal too much and create too much competition and as such, we are experiencing this bottle neck competition now.

are you joking?

every hint here is creating competion

so you better leave

Competition is not a bad thing btw. It helps us all improve our craft. But listening to the customers is important.
