It seems to me that the number of high quality (or even good quality) domains expiring / dropping has gone down significantly in the last 6 months or so. I browse the Namejet, Godaddy and Dropcatch lists frequently but very rarely find anything that I'm super excited about (although I don't really trade the 4L / numerics market). I was wondering if this is just me, or have others also noticed a significant drying up of the market?

You described it well, right now there exist few opportunities in auctions.

I am finding better opportunities with hand regs, believe it or not.

You have to know what your doing when it comes to hand reg. Not much gets overlooked.

You have more upside on hand reg if all the money is being paid up to acquire an aftermarket drop. It really hurts cashflow when you have to put up so much more money, then play the waiting game, as many will be doing.

Well with the dropcatches you can pretty much piggyback off others research, and backorders with public dropcatch auctions.

While I don't question the quality of the caught domains, I certainly question the prices.

I got an sudden sale via afternic just a few days ago
where I'd set the buy now after inquiry to $1188 USD

so I am testing that price now for a while
my $3888 USD or $5888 USD may have been a little uneffecive ..

I just got another inquiry from a domain I was about to drop so I renewed it. I had the name for a decade, but it is a common phrase in the accounting industry. There are even calculators around the phrase.

The only wisest word I have seen in the forum... people talk too much, reveal too much and create too much competition and as such, we are experiencing this bottle neck competition now.

It is true that picking domains that is worth anything has become so much of a herculean task than previously experienced but we have to device various means to still grab what we can.

.com domains in my niche have pretty much dried up since many states have gone green. I find the odd one now and again, but I am more keen to develop my ccTLDs at the moment (.ca). Agreed .coms have had the fastest turnaround, but maintenance $$ is high per domain. Let me know if anyone is interested in a bulk .com transfer - looking to liquidate. I have actually been selling more .ca`s due to the newly announced Canada`s cannabis legalization. I`m surprised that many new startups choose .com due to border restrictions - probably the optics of a .com, although it would seem more appropriate to identify one`s legitimate business as being identified with the ccTLD extension.

I work for a major national telecommunications network, and in training I heard a few things like "we have one mouth and two ears for a reason; we should listen twice as much as we talk." In our case (the company I work for), it means we listen to the customer's needs.

That is something we can all learn from. Revealing too much of our own business strategy can hurt us in the long run. It also means you should buy names that your customers want. And you have to figure out who those future customers are.

The true thing that the qualify domain names on Dropped list are downing.
Now i just register about 4-5 good names/week.
