Hello NamePros!
By popular demand, we have launched a dedicated feedback thread for Afternic, the GoDaddy-owned domain name marketplace.

We have created this thread as a way for you to tell us what works, what doesn't work, and what features you'd like to see at Afternic (please be constructive with your feedback). We're looking forward to hearing from the domain investment community to help us shape the future of Afternic.

We will also be sharing Afternic product updates in this thread.

Please note that this thread is not meant for support. Please email our support team at [email protected] for assistance.

Maybe 5 pages are better to weed out timewasters.. although there will always be timewasters or even domainers testing.. I'm sure they have tested this.
Time waster can be weeded out on Page 2, when it says do you specifically want to purchase this domain, and NO ends the inquiry.

I'm currently unable to access my Afternic dashboard. The page just continuously tries to load. Also having issues signing into my GoDaddy account.

Hi @Jannes
This is part of an ongoing experiment. Buyers want more information to assist in their decision-making, and it's proving popular so far. We'll continue experimenting with this to support aftermarket conversion rates, but your feedback is appreciated.

Oh yeah @GoDaddy, I forgot to call bullshit on this one.

A buyer can be happy to find a reason for not buying. Many buyers have no idea what those metrics mean or of their (ir)relevance, they just see something negative.

You call it an experiment, I call it a breach of trust.

And the Dan migration process can silently re-enable Fast Transfer on domains you used to own, potentially screwing the new owner who will only know when the domain leaves their account - see:

Currently anyone is able to list my domains on their Afternic account, if I haven't listed them yet. Stringent verification is required only in case of listings by two accounts.

Right now, when a FT authorization is sent to registrar partners only the domain name & list price are available. We don't know if the FT authorization was sent from my Afternic account or someone else's. Very often I notice, others add my domain to their Afternic account, and I get a FT authorization request.

It'd be helpful if the FT authorization request sent to the registrar carries the "Afternic account id", from which it was sent. So we know that the authorization request is coming from my own Afternic account.

Within the registrar (Registrar might implement this) we could also perhaps whitelist requests from my Afternic account, while auto-rejecting requests from other accounts.
I agree 100% with what @Smooth has written.

Do we have a response on when this will be addressed, @Afternic? Thank you in advance.

I really think, and I know some will complain about the bother of TXT verification, now that there is a smoothly working TXT verification system at Afternic, that you should require verification for all new listings, not just ones where the name has been listed already, so the practice of listing names owned by others can be shut down.

The notice showing the Afternic account that listed the name when we are asked to confirm through our registrar is an excellent one as well. I presume this would require both Afternic notifying the registrar which Afternic account the request is coming from, and also the registrar to modify their message format to include this information.

and it's proving popular so far.

Popular among who, exactly? A select group of buyers chasing traffic domains? A select group of sellers catering to that niche? Or the creator(s) of this feature, basking in a bubble of self-satisfaction?

Why is it so hard to focus on the basicsโ€”the key features that truly benefit all sellers? Why not simply deliver those features in flawless condition? How about landers that resolve properly, pages that load quickly, search that doesnโ€™t bury aftermarket domains under heaps of irrelevant .sucks --.big --.time extensions? Or a distribution system that propagates listings and updates correctly? What about checkout carts that donโ€™t fail from time to time and payments that arenโ€™t delayed?

There are definitely qualities worth acknowledging, but Afternic/GoDaddy have been moving like mad scientists with blindfolds and earplugs onโ€”using our domains as guinea pigs for any "experiment" that comes to mind, all while ignoring our feedback on these experiments and their detrimental effects.

Shiny labels, tags, stats, and insights are nice, but theyโ€™re not the main factors behind conversions. Not in the domain space. And very clearly, for Afternic/GoDaddy, theyโ€™ve never been the core elements that made the platforms strong in the first place.

What good are those insights if the cart doesnโ€™t work? What good is the โ€œnew lookโ€ of your landers if they fail to resolve as expected?

Your engine needs serious work, but youโ€™re funneling resources into superficial paint jobs.

Please, listen to us.

These are the commissions when you're using GoDaddy aftermarket supported nameservers.

Depending on whether you've enabled Boost, it's 15% (without Boost) or 20% (with Boost enabled).

It's not clear on their page.
5% if you import the lead
15% if you use their lander
20% if you opted in for the boost
25% if you don't use their name servers.
30% if you opted in for boost and not using their name servers.

Well said.

I think Afternic/Godaddy have great business/partnerships and marketing teams.

But poor product & tech teams. They simply don't seem to understand domainers. I hope your product managers can do regular focus group sessions with domain investors.

@silentg, I do believe most, if not all these logs are available to Upper Level Management.
