Hello NamePros!
By popular demand, we have launched a dedicated feedback thread for Afternic, the GoDaddy-owned domain name marketplace.

We have created this thread as a way for you to tell us what works, what doesn't work, and what features you'd like to see at Afternic (please be constructive with your feedback). We're looking forward to hearing from the domain investment community to help us shape the future of Afternic.

We will also be sharing Afternic product updates in this thread.

Please note that this thread is not meant for support. Please email our support team at [email protected] for assistance.

GoDaddy continues to demonstrate its monopolistic powers with ZERO regard for customers.

Who locks rudimentary data behind a $250 paywall?

A senseless monopoly, that's who.

I strongly believe that GoDaddy's desperate frenzy to monetize and paywall everything will lead them to lock the ability to list your domain names for sale through Afternic behind a paywall SOON.

Domain investors should be prepared for that.

Why not include these services at no additional cost beyond the 15%-30% commission on sales?

Why not offer buyer broker assistance at much less or no cost until domain is secured?

These seem like opportunities to me.

Spaceship is looking more and more compelling. SellerHub is only 5% commission, and the features are always getting better.

Afternic, meanwhile, keeps jacking up their commission while locking essential features behind a paywall. :banghead:

If Namecheap exits the Afternic partner network, monthly qualified searches will drop significantly, further eroding Afternic's value proposition. In turn, GoDaddy is likely to double down on aggressive Discount Domain Pro lockโ€‘in tactics, the sort that tend to backfire, as with the stillโ€‘unproven automatic Boost optโ€‘in. Yet, from a GoDaddy investor's vantage point, these moves can look great on paper, thanks to predictable recurring revenue and inflated ARPU metrics.

I'm looking forward to the next improvement.

Amazing new feature. Not. :xf.rolleyes:

At this point, anything that Afternic introduces arrives with a "wow" boost statement, as if it's the next best thing since sliced bread. In fact, such features are long overdue but to add insult to injury, Afternic makes it a DDC-only feature.

Just a reminder that DAN.com is still active, still contains all your domains, and still deletes domains when they are deleted. In other words, a dead service delivers while a live service such as Afternic fails to deliver.

It's a strange domain world we are living in.

Afternic Staff โ€” What Happened to Transaction Assurance?

This post is directed at Afternic staff, because sellers deserve real answers.

I sold a domain on Saturday and expedited the transfer by 9 AM. Back in the day, that meant the transaction would get handled by a real professional โ€” someone who moved the process forward and made sure payment wasnโ€™t delayed.

Now? Itโ€™s like the entire system has collapsed.

I had to call support just to figure out whatโ€™s going on. The rep couldnโ€™t speak English well enough to communicate basic words โ€” I was spelling out โ€œdogโ€ and โ€œreal estateโ€ just to be understood. After wasting 15 minutes, I got nothing but: โ€œIโ€™ll leave a note.โ€ Thatโ€™s it?

Itโ€™s now late Monday and I still havenโ€™t received payment or even a proper update. How is this acceptable?

Meanwhile, I sold a domain on Atom last week. The buyer paid, I transferred, requested payout, and was paid within 20 minutes. Thatโ€™s the difference between a company thatโ€™s focused on sellers โ€” and one that clearly isnโ€™t.

Afternicโ€™s system is no longer reliable. Payments are slow, support is ineffective, and sellers are left in the dark. This is NOT how you run a marketplace, especially under the GoDaddy brand.

And letโ€™s be real โ€” Paul Nicks didnโ€™t โ€œtransition,โ€ he was demoted. Itโ€™s no secret that Afternic has been in decline under his leadership.

So Iโ€™m asking directly:
Where is the seller support? Where is the accountability? Who is actually managing this platform now? Because from the outside, it looks like nobody is. This is not a one time problem and if your dealing with domain buy service brokers there is really a bigger problem your loooking at a minimum of 10 days to get paid and thats with being proactive on the sellers part

Afternic is getting worse every day. This situation is causing serious harm, especially to domain sellers. It seems like this is being done deliberately.

Yes, besides the payment issues I mentioned earlier, letโ€™s talk about the brokers โ€” or should I say, the chaotic free-for-all that is Afternic. I got the inside scoop from someone who left that zoo. Apparently, brokers there have monthly quotas. Whether it's officially mandated or just an unwritten rule, it creates a mess.

With millions of domains in their system, thereโ€™s plenty of low-hanging fruit for brokers to pick off. So, if your domain enters negotiation? Congratulations โ€” youโ€™ve just been placed on the way, way back burner. Unless you're actively pushing them , your name just collects dust.

But hereโ€™s where it gets really fun: once you do push, the tone changes. Suddenly, these brokers โ€” who are supposed to be working for you, the seller โ€” start getting snippy, passive-aggressive, and borderline sarcastic. It's disrespectful and unprofessional, and I never experienced anything like this before Afternic was acquired.

Then come the mysterious โ€œcode messagesโ€ โ€” vague replies that make less sense than a Magic 8 Ball โ€” until, eventually, all interest evaporates into the void.

Also, can someone remind me who the broker is actually working for? Because from where I'm standing (as the commission-paying seller, mind you), it sure feels like theyโ€™re team buyer. The complete lack of transparency doesnโ€™t help either. Platforms like Saw and Atom let you know who the buyer is. On Afternic? You could be dealing with Apple Inc. and unknowingly leaving tens of thousands on the table.

Paul Nicks once said in a DomainSherpa interview that Afternic would become more transparent. Spoiler alert: it didnโ€™t happen. Iโ€™ll let you decide whether that makes him dishonest or just out of touch.

This may take a while to fix โ€” if it ever does. The silver lining? Companies like Unstoppable are actually listening to customers. When they finally integrate with Afternic, Iโ€™ll be moving my portfolio there. I donโ€™t need GoDaddyโ€™s brokers โ€” I just need the eyeballs. As it stands, those brokers are more likely to blow up a deal than close one.

That said, Iโ€™ll be fair: there are a few stars in the bunch. But sadly, theyโ€™re the exception โ€” not the rule.

Oh, come on โ€” you're right. Silly me, expecting payment after actually delivering the product. What was I thinking?

Itโ€™s not like I spent 20 minutes on the phone wrestling with some guy doing his best KGB impersonation, who was allegedly a "transaction assurance agent." No, that totally inspires confidence. After that delightful experience, I thought maybe โ€” just maybe โ€” the transaction would be on the runway, ready for takeoff, like the good olโ€™ days at Afternic before the circus rolled into town.

Back then, once the domain was transferred and the buyer had it, you'd get a quick, "Payment is being processed โ€” if it doesnโ€™t hit tonight, check by tomorrow afternoon." And yes, theyโ€™d throw in the legalese about "up to 3 business days," but it was just a formality.

Now? With this shiny new system, youโ€™re looking at three business days minimum โ€” if you stay on their case. If you let it ride, you might be celebrating the domainโ€™s birthday before you see a dime.

So no, I donโ€™t โ€œexpectโ€ same-day payment โ€” I just expect a functioning system and a little competence. Guess thatโ€™s asking too much.
