is there any research on what are the best add-in words?

like:

fishingguide.com
fishingreview.com
fishingpage.com
fishingnews.com
gardenplace.com
gardenspot.com

etc etc

or is this just a matter of preference
googletrends is somewhat helpful but i wonder if there is anything else

I think it's more of a preference on that. I do recommend that if your going to make a site on fishing that has a couple sections, and may add more later, don't go with "fishingreview.com" if your going to have classifieds, forums, pictures, ect. When people see your domain, they think what the site is about from the domain... "fishingreview.com" would be thought of just fishing reviews. While "fishingsite.com" can have anything fishing related.
