Hi - Just wondering if it is possible to transfer a domain account to a new owner by just changing the contact details ?

ie - I have some names at one register which I would like to give to someone else, can I just change the contact/ownership details into their name ?

If so - Would the whois info for each indivdual domain be auctomatically updated to the new owners name ?

I realise that this can not be done for some etensions like .co.uk but what about .com - .info and .net domains ?

Thanks, any input appreciated :)

Yes, technically that is all that needs to be done. If you have an account, simply give the new owner the login info, and advise them to change the registrant. The WhoIs should update within a matter of days (depending on of course who the domain is registrered with). But you are on the right track.

Cool :) Will this be possible to do at most of the registers ?

Absolutely. All registrars (to my knowledge) are recquired to allow you to change the registrant information. I also believe almost all of them offer a free push. (all the big ones, anyway)

I think this has been said in a roundabout way, but changing the whois is not enough in itself as the domain would still show up in your account with those details.

You still need to "push" (change ownership) by sending the domain into the newe owner's account at the same registrar. I suppose you could give up your account that contains the name, but think of all the stuff you would have to do...it's much easier to push.

"Works" for .com's, but not all TLD's, .co.uk for example.
