After 3 years, I think it might finally be time to take a step back from the domain industry. I will be liquidating most of my portfolio in the coming weeks. I would be willing to make myself available for some individual consultations but I will largely be focusing on other projects.

There are 2 things that I think are worth emphasizing before I go:
  1. This industry needs to change. There are too many leaches. Everyone is trying to sell something that you don't need. Realize that free isn't free and most paid products are not needed. Some tools are worth the subscription fee but most domainer to domainer services and products are crap.
  2. There are too many domain "gods." Sure, they have made some money but look deep enough and you'll quickly learn that most know only a little more than you. They are just good at gift wrapping crap. Stop following and start leading.

So if you want a free piece of advice or would like to know about my hopes, dreams, and aspirations... post below. I'm an open book.

Otherwise, it's been fun.

This is exactly why I'm getting out of this industry. You and the likes are a huge waste of my time. I try to contribute but you're too busy doing circles in your own sad world to stop, listen, and soak up some knowledge. This community shares day in and day out yet many of you degrade the forum. You seek to disrupt conversation and insult those with information that would positively impact your business. Maybe if you stopped for a second, swallowed your pride, you'd actually make some money. Not that I really care about your finances, but you'll never retire being a Walmart greeter.

Awesome plan Shane. Create a goodbye thread, make it out like your leaving the forum and then pump your sales threads. I wish I thought of that.

You despise domain gods as your first post stated, but they more I read your posts on the forum and see what business practices you doing, they more it appears you are trying to be one. You talk to me in a very condescending tone. Talking down to me as if I'm a peasant under your shoe and that I'll never amount to much. All your posts are very similar, whether it be on this forum or on your blog. Yes I have read it. Just confirms my suspicions that you are the very thing you hate in this industry. I am day in day out helping people, but you clearly don't know that and are very quick to attack.

You started a business of creating domain lists and then abandoned the idea after a few weeks. Yet your text under your avatar says "Play to Win" and now you're giving up on the domain industry. Perhaps you should change your text to "Play to Quit".

I have no respect for quitters especially the ones that make it out like they are the dog's boll*x in this world and that everyone else is trash.

Heaven forbid he want to push himself academically instead of being a parasite, which is effectively what all domainers are.

You seem to be implying that he should cancel the masters to continue trying to flog domain names to the greedy and the gullible.

After you accuse him of being a guru type, before exclaiming that you spend all day "helping people". Well if the extent of your advice is that Shane should try and try and blag the masters and instead spend all of the time trawling drop lists then I'd suggest that your advice isn't worth the muck under my toenails.

Would love to hear about your upcoming projects (any businesses, investments, collaborations, ect.), I also want to sincerely thank you for helping me sell my domain NUP.com awhile back. I was about 18 years old at the time and it helped me get a huge head start on my life and career. Because of that sale I was able to get to a stable place where I'm at now living on my own with a good career in San Diego. I've looked up to you in the domain industry and it's definitely had a very real impact on my life. The car I drive 150 miles a day to and from San Diego was purchased 100% upright from money I got domaining and without it I couldn't commute to work everyday. Thank You Shane :D also if you have any lower end domains you want to liquidate please hit me up.

Yeah. So typical for the people who need attention. Everybody who are not worshiping you - are haters. You are so... simple, man. The industry. Many greater people than you left the industry and they didn't make it with a good buy post. And many many great domainers actually succeed in the industry and are not looking for ways to justify their failure with blah blah like you do.

OK. It's fine. You are too smart for this industry. You are making tons of money, but you have greater plans for your life and the future or the universe. We got that.

Man - I just imagine when Ali decides to leave the industry because it's so boring and he achieved ultra mega level and it's time to save the world. The Earth will stop spinning and the newbies will cry at least for couple of days. And if someone reasonable tries to question some of the tactics that you both use and your "success" , he will be labeled "hater" immediately.

So funny.

Going to work on my branding business and building websites. I used to develop and it was a great time. Exciting to see people interacting in what you built.

Thanks for asking.
All the best for your bright future.

No shame if you fail in business it happens to the best of us.Bill gates, Warren Buffet, trump, etc I concur with Sofiapartner why leave a business if you are making a killing it dosent make sense. Anyway wish you the best but my advice to anyone who seeks magical success tips from the domain angels is destined to be disaapionted. Why you may ask? Let me let you in on a big secret "there are no gurus" we all have brains granted to us by the most high use it , passion. Drive and self determination can get you there don't expect anyone to think for you.

Ps : Not a Guru.
