After 3 years, I think it might finally be time to take a step back from the domain industry. I will be liquidating most of my portfolio in the coming weeks. I would be willing to make myself available for some individual consultations but I will largely be focusing on other projects.

There are 2 things that I think are worth emphasizing before I go:
  1. This industry needs to change. There are too many leaches. Everyone is trying to sell something that you don't need. Realize that free isn't free and most paid products are not needed. Some tools are worth the subscription fee but most domainer to domainer services and products are crap.
  2. There are too many domain "gods." Sure, they have made some money but look deep enough and you'll quickly learn that most know only a little more than you. They are just good at gift wrapping crap. Stop following and start leading.

So if you want a free piece of advice or would like to know about my hopes, dreams, and aspirations... post below. I'm an open book.

Otherwise, it's been fun.

Haven't felt obligated to reply to this thread until now as Ive already given him my well wishes on skype. Ive gotten to know Shane pretty well over the past year and I have to say most of the negativity Ive read here is completely absurd. Why wouldn't someone further their education (leading to many years of getting paid to do what he really enjoys) instead of spamming marketing managers or CEO's to buy domains? There are alot of us that believe parts of this industry are disgusting, for me its mostly the elitists and the way they prey upon the noobs, and don't even like being labeled a domainer. I wish I could go back 5 years to his age and get my masters but that ship has sailed.

Over the past almost 10 years of my namepros and dp life Id say maybe 5% of the people Ive gotten to know were both honest and genuinely friendly as Shane has been torwards me without ever expecting anything in return.

We haven't really spoken much but I wish you the best of Luck. I myself left the industry back in 2010 for 3 years the simple reason was because I was loosing money all over the place on domains and other online investments
I guess is the same reason, is a tough industry.
Have a breath of fresh air all the best

I think we are taking this all to seriously. Chill, if you don't like the thread, just move to one you do or even better put your head above the parapet and start one.

how can he be saying goodbye when he clearly says he's not leaving the forum?

I guess he'll sucker some mug to buy his domains only to buy better domains.

He's the new Adam Tricker

I'll be honest, when he said he's liquidating, I thought there was going to be some good deals on domains. But i haven't really seen any. Not to judge or state any negative intentions by your good bye. I just saw the words "Liquidating my holdings"... haha.. can't find a good bargain anywhere

I think the simple point to this thread is he's not domaining full time as a vocation. Is there anything wrong with creating a thread with the purpose of stating it? I've seen some of the really decent domains he's tried to sell recently, and received no interest because everyone is too busy with 5L, NNNN, chips and wtf else boring stuff which no-one knows what are worth anymore.

Congratulations for bettering yourself! You have the same mentality I have, "Can't stop, cuz I won't stop!"

Hey, thats the right way to go, when you develop a domain is mostly that you bring it to use and create value, and the more and better you do it the better you get appreciated. I wish you enjoy the journey to success.

Please let me know how can I see your portfolio. I might buy a few if the prices are right and there is something that fits my needs.

If they are so few, why not name and honor them? Surely others could benefit from this.

I would like to know why this footer was placed on my statement above?

The opinions expressed here by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

Who decides what is offensive? Not a very nice way to welcome a newcomer.

johname said this as far as that:

"That footer is on all first posts of a page, see above."

Interestingly, Shane has not responded to this thread for over a week. If I was him I would be sitting back with the pop corn watching the cat play with the pigeons here.

As the great Taylor Swift once said: "The haters are gonna hate, hate, hate. The players are gonna play, play, play" I'm sure he'll shake it off, just shake it off!
