Maybe it was just ahead of its time. Or maybe there were just too many features to ever allow it to be defined properly, but Google is saying today that they are going to stop any further development of Google Wave.

Wave, a real time messaging platform, was unveiled in May 2009 to an enthusiastic crowd of developers at the Google I/O event in San Francisco. It would โ€œset a new benchmark for interactivity,โ€ said Sergey Brin.

I signed up for this months ago and to be honest the only time I looked at it was the few hours after signing up. It was an interesting product.

They do state in the official announcement that parts of it will be used as part of other products so I doubt this is necessarily the full end of it.
