Hi everyone,
I am a newbie in the domain industry. As a beginner, it seems to be a vast pool. How can I begin my first domain purchase? I am also in need of a promo code for my first purchase. What are the steps and precautions should I take? Am I already late in this industry?
Thanks!

Hey, welcome! The best advice I can offer is to wait before making your first purchase, then wait a bit more. Study what sells, study what doesn't sell, pay attention to auctions and read namebio,.com everyday.

You are late compared to people who started yesterday, early compared to people who haven't started yet.

Good luck!

Hello and welcome to nps!

Use the search function and read, read, read...take notes along the way. Don't stress about finding a code...there are several registrars with good pricing and FREE privacy...don't get fooled by cheap deals...there can be a lot of fine print...start by looking at registrars that advertise here.

Hello!

Suggest that you take a bit of time to read through the many threads and posts on the Forum re buying domains and, selling domains. Read through all of the " sold " threads to get an idea of names that are being sold, at what price and, likely on what platform.

Are you domain niche interested - if so - search out and read through your preferred domain niche and again see what is being acquired, perhaps dropped or avoided and, sold in that particular niche.

Spend a few months reading this forum before buying a name.

Welcome to NP.
For now, don't rush into buying domains.
Here is your watchword the next 1 or so month:
Read everything, buy nothing.

Agree with advice to go slow, learn as much as possible, and focus on some niches you know well.

I know it is hard to not jump right in and acquire a bunch of names, but in meantime keep a growing list of available names that you think have value, and every few days return to list to see, after more learning, which ones you still think are good, and which you feel less positive about.

I collated some of the good content on NamePros for those starting out in this article that you might find helpful.

Best wishes in domain investing, and welcome to NamePros @IshworKhadka !

All the above advice is the soundest you could get.

What could I add in terms of advice?

Hmmm.

Look at the real world around and real people, study how they talk and read, keep up to date with the latest news whether it be sports, politics, medicine, science, gaming, technology, entertainment, etc., etc.. (No you will not be able to take it all in but get used to at least scanning what is happening, then start concentrating on what you are interested in and delve deeper into that one, two, three, or even four subjects.)

As a domainer you will suddenly realise that language and its nuances are important, abbreviations, slang, etc., suddenly take on a possible business opportunity - but like most business opportunities most will not produce gold in a monetary form initially - but hopefully they will produce golden experience for you to build on.

Finally be prepared to fail on some endeavours, every single member here has including yours truly. :xf.grin:

Well think of it like this, You've just turned-up at a party:

The buffet table is fairly decimated, The dance floor is in full swing and the bar has notices showing whats run-out. Not too late to enjoy yourself but all the pretty women are taken

Welcome @IshworKhadka
I am about two years old and I read about domaining on and off for about 7 months and got a few domains but no sale and I am now in my second year. I underestimated how much learning is required.
From my experience, I recommend read about domining from Namepros, blogs and other sites that document the domain name industry for about an hour or two DAILY for at least three months (also STUDY domains actually sold using Namebio, NamePros sales threads, DNjournal and so on as many domains listed for sale do not sell so using those as a guide on what domains to buy can help reduce your chance of wasting money on domains that won't sell.) and then purchase no more than 20 domains and see if you can sell at least one within a year before purchasing or registering more. If nothing works from the first batch of domains, research more, read topics on NamePros that cover the exact challenge you face to get ideas and try them and see if anything works. When something works and you make a sale then try and repeat that again and again until you have a consistent formula that works for you. The domaining community has some of the most enlightened and resourceful individuals I have ever encountered and the fulfilment of breaking through and esrning money through domain name selling and investing is worth the hard work in my opinion. Best of luck.
