A lot of domain investors also invest in crypto currency it seems as of late. I usually feel pretty confident that a domain I carefully acquire today will be a 10x+ my investment including holding time. If say, I were to buy bitcoin today, is it feasible that i would get 10x my money?

Ha ! And even that simple phrase can be wrong.
How can you be sure that noone else knows something important that you, or most people, don't ? (insider-knowledge).
prices go up, prices go down. What's your real question?

prices go up, prices go down. What's your real question?

I can't see the rationale behind investing in Bitcoin or another cryptocurrency. I wish someone could shed some light here ?

There are factors like risk, reward, the full spectrum of probabilities of the price going up or down, and also the certainty one has in their information / assessment. Those would be crisp numbers. Is it that nobody can analyze the situation with numbers ? Even a rough analysis with assumptions and approximations would be interesting.

All I see is comments about what has happened with the price in the past X months or years, but this is irrelevant to what will happen in the future.

How is investing in Bitcoin different from gambling ? Is there a reason to believe the investment is worth while ?

Cryptocurrencies are akin to domain names in 1997/98. A money revolution where free market alternatives exist to govt issued debt based/ military enforced fiat is underway.

Cryptocurrencies don't require a third party to perform once possession is taken onto a cold storage device. That's to say that the money is truly in your control and ownership where in seconds it can be delivered to any address. This is significant for people who have experienced hyperinflation and currency debasement on a huge scale as they can discreetly save in bitcoin which has a finite supply. It is a cash alternative that can't be burned, counterfeited or stolen as easily.

Bitcoin is the default currency of the alternative crypto currencies. In all likelihood, many cryptocurrencies that exist today will cease to be in years time. Parallels to the dotcom boom bust Era are probably fair. Some giants emerged from that time (Amazon). Cryptocurrencies and bitcoin are here to stay. Their volatility and use cases make many of them very exciting.

Much more likely that your bitcoin "investment" can go to zero overnight.

I agree. And a reason people made fortunes is that they were the first movers. Add to that the lack of information about domaining, ie . little competition and healthy margins.

With domains, people knew that it "works", because some demand existed, they were making money and it all made sense. They could see how the domains they were selling were put to use and they were confident they can find more like those, and rinse and repeat.

I don't see this logic, or the "rinse and repeat" pattern with cryptos.

You don't know enough
Any punk with a keyboard can post a comment. I don't see anything on this forum that qualifies you to make such a post and you can't know much about of my knowledge on the subject. Are you so naive to think there is one and only one conclusion to be derived from the current cryptocurrency phenomenon? Yours and only yours?

I stand by my post. It is a very real possibility.

Buying Bitcoin worded domain names is waste of money.

If I knew about the bitcoin future 5 years ago, I would have stop focusing on domains and become a multi millionaire from just buying BTC. So would most of us, I guess.

Bitcoin is mostly speculation, while being a domainer is a combination of knowledge, hard work AND speculation. I personally think it's hard to compare these two...

I believe crypto is the future of payment but how this will evolve at the end I do not know. as investment ,it is very very risky at least at today's price of 11600$. Trading is less risky than forex but still risky.

Another thing, I do not believe Cryptos are not controlled . it is controlled at least by people who own the most of bitcoins. And we do not know WHO ARE THEY?!

Go to zero, i think the chance is very very small, almost impossible.
Go to $100. Possible, but still very small chance

I guess if those who own most bitcoins decided to sell quickly , price can drop dramatically 90% or more but not to zero but may be 100$ or less

If they decided not to sell, the price will continue to rise but at much slower rate with price going up

If they decided to sell slowly over years , price will not rise and we will see fluctuations but no big change. But the more bitcoins distributed to public the less the price will be until they sell most of what they have , then it will come the end CRASH. It will be very painful

You are playing with fire, do not complain then

I have built a cryto currency portfolio over the last year and so and the ROI is HUGE! it is still in its infancy. There are new cryptos coming out every month, if you do your research and find good projects backed by a stellar team you can get 1000% on your investment in weeks/months.. A recent example of this is POWR.. Bitcoin will continue to grow but the key is finding the 'next' big token.. have a look in to the likes of IOTA, NEO, OMG and QSP potential is huge..

IOTA perhaps has the most potential of them all.
I purchased it just above 0.52 and already have ROI.

Haha, you sound emotional!

It's OK buttercup, everything is fine.

I was just challenging your poor contribution that it could go to 0. The USD could go to 0. We may be able to bring back dinosaurs. Sandwiches might give you cancer.. Do you like making unbacked and meaningless hypotheticals like this?

Your replies have been obnoxious and unqualified. Simple as that. You don't know it all.
Twitter is much better place for the one-sided crypto get-rich-quick hype.
If you insist on having the last word, then I'll reply in advance; gfy.

Haters gonna hate. If you expect your 'bitcoin more likely going to 0' trash to go to unaddressed then you care more about your bubble that intellectual discourse.

You have proven you don't know what you're talking about and your emotional intelligence stops you from having a good discussion and hearing counterarguments. For your sake I hope that changes. Good luck.

Yesterday at this time it was at $1.40

I could cash out right now with profit.
Domains take a little longer than 24 hrs to accomplish that.
