Get this crap.

So I ran across a broker that was looking for advertisements of Adult Related domains. I brainstormed and what I thought was a good brandable adult name. Cumpros.com

Went to 1and1 and it was available. So I purchased it. They sent me a confirmation email thanking me for the purchase, saying you are the proud owner of this domain.

12 Hours later, I get a email saying we could not register the domain in your name. So I jump on a WHOIS search and someone else got the name HOURS after getting my confirmation that I owned it. And the crappy part is I was getting offers on the domain itself!

Whatever you do stay away from 1and1. There crappy 99 cent domain registration service cost me over a $1000.

I too dislike 1and1. I haven't use them for years, but I guess they still suck.

So you paid 99 cents for an expired domain. How did you end up paying $1,000?

In my opinion 1&1 Internet cost me a $50,000 business.

No, guys, 1and1 has its niche on the market :) They are very good... for training purposes :) God created them in quite a specific manner, for a reason :) Newbies (when registering domains with them) can easily identify and study all hidden rocks in the industry :)

It's worse than this from what I have read in other threads - people have found 1and1 took possession of valuable domain names and the registrant lost the names. Been going on for years - just google 1and1 sucks for example. They really should be investigated and shut down.

One of the worst companies I have ever seen, anytime they are mentioned I tell people to STAY AWAY NO MATTER WHAT. Yes I did use them and have serious problems, would never touch them again.

No I regd it. Advertised the name got a offer of $1000 for it. Then they sent me the email 10 hours later saying sorry we were not able to register the domain for you. But I actually got an email saying they regd it and it was mine.

So someone obviously saw the ad that I posted then went and regd it after 1and1 dropped the ball!

So you mean you regged the domain, had the ability to LOCK the domain from your user panel, and had the sales receipt to prove that the transaction was done.... and yet, 1&1 still cancelled your domain and gave it to someone else?

Did they reimburse your 99 cents?

Anyway, i doubt that $1,000 offer was legit.

I thought that name sounded familiar, I seen it over at the GFY board where someone was trying to sell it yesterday and everyone over there smelled a rat.

I dont think I am allowed to post a link to another forum so just go over there and use the search for that name.

There is a long thread about it in the Sell and Buy Forum.

I don't think 1&1 notifies the .com registry of purchases in real time.

Not defending 1and1 practices but what do you expect for $1?

1und1 is not just a company.
It's an ideology. The one they got from their fathers serving in Wehrmacht.
The New Regime.
As a matter of fact they don't even want you to know that they're German.

I actually felt bad putting their ads on my affiliate sites (they're a CJ merchant), and broke the relationship off a long time ago. Just couldn't do that to people.

Why not using Godaddy? They also offered nice 1$, 2$, 3$ coupons recently (and do it continously) and they register your name within seconds and are domainer friendly!

1$1 is for noobs and people who never heard about domains and want their first domain together with website package, hosting, email and all the extra crap ultimately making $30 each month for years to come in addition to their $0.99 domain trap.

1&1 sucks. period.

Godaddy never sends me coupons! I have about 10 registered with Godaddy but decided to try that site out. Very bad experience

1and1 is the WORST registrar in the market by far.

they used to, and for your words they still do, take 12 hours to register a domain name. you pay and then you wait and eventually lose the domain.

then, when you get service, you will see that for stop doing business with them you have to go to an external site to cancel your services, and with a clumsy interface that makes very evident that they are only wanting your money and not serving you.

finally, if you let you domain expire they can even transfer it immediately to their partner domainer business DomCollect. some years ago i had a domain that had expired about 5 days and they just move it to DomCollect.

and if you trace the business you will see that they are with United Domains and, guess what, SEDO.

still puzzles me how they are still in business.

regards,
tonecas

I guess it's because:
  • they run many flashy ads in the magazines so they are well-known
  • their focus is on hosting
  • as long as you don't want to move your domains, where is the problem ?
Domainers have specific needs, that not any registrar can satisfy.
