Does 1&1 bill you after hours of confirming your order?

Hello. I've registred a domain with 1&1 (I had a good Idea but was low on cash, they have COMs for 1$ first year). After entering all my data and confirming my order I chose to pay with PayPal, the system redirected me to PayPal, I logged in to PayPal, and PayPal ask me to authorize 1&1 to be paid with PayPal, I confirmed it, then I got redirected back to 1and1, and that was it, no payment was made. Does 1&1 bill after account/domain confirmation (they say it takes up to 24 hours) or there most likely was a glitch?

1&1 is reputed domain registering company and whenever I purchased any domain fro there it never shows like this. May be there is a glitch with the payment or so.

As many reviews say you shouldn't be too optimistic with 1&1 customer support.

I just went to see if the domain is available for registration on other registrars, and it is. It seems that 1&1 probably have taken no action regarding the domain. Is it safe to try to register it with other registrar (godaddy, namecheap)?

Stay away from 1&1 they are scam! I let some domains expire with them and they put me on collection until I pay. I told them what are they doing and its wrong because no other registrar does that and they told me to ignore all that but I was still on collection and i was getting all this phone calls and it affected my credit. Stay Away from them as much as possible...

same happened to me,
first, you have to cancel the permission you gave in payapal to pay to 1and1 recurrent charges. because that is what you did, you gave them permission to charge you whenever they want. if you don't know how to do it pm me.
I got billed for 15$ buck even if I bought a 1$ domain, but they could not charge me because I had already cancelled the recurrent payment authorization on paypal. I called them and they said it was a mistake but a few days later I received a bill for 15$ from 1and1. I sent them a very nasty email and they agreed to let me have the domain for free for the first year.
you have to be extra careful whom you give authorization to charge your paypal account.

I think you must be the only person that I've found who is happy with 1&1
There are lots of bad things written about them on this forum (Including by me)

For a cheap domain use the $1 coupons on here for Godaddy - there is a whole thread on here about them.

Don't register a domain at 1&1 even for free - the trouble and expense is not worth it. Just try googling "1 and 1 sucks" or "1 and 1 stole my domain".
