I would say that most people will just ignore these suggestions as they believe their question will be answered better if they open a new thread. If on the other hand, you close threads with a warning it might deter people from making new duplicates. BTW did you think about implementing a more versatile search option?Hello,
We are going to add a feature that shows similar threads during the process of creating a thread. We expect that will help avoid most duplicate threads from being created.
Until then, please report all duplicate threads so that we can merge/close them.
Thanks for your help,

We have that:BTW did you think about implementing a more versatile search option?
Something like this?
Code:forums.qrz.com/index.php?attachments/search1-jpg.321223/
We already do that, as well, but we mostly depend on reports from members to bring them to our attention.you close threads with a warning it might deter people from making new duplicates
That's a good guideline. It's also standard forum etiquette, but most users don't know about it. Even as a rule, many don't know about it. It usually takes a member creating a duplicate thread, another member reporting it, and then staff getting involved before the member learns about it. However, with thousands of new members continuously signing up, it's a continuous cycle, which is why we favor the feature that shows similar threads and may lead to them posting in an existing thread instead of creating a new one. If they read the similar threads and those don't meet their needs/questions, then they can continue to create a new thread."search before you post". It's just a guideline.
