GoDaddy Auctions -- Discussion, Acquisitions, and Sales

I searched the forum and could not find a thread dedicated solely to Godaddy auctions, which seem to be heating up lately.

I envision this thread as a place for discussion regarding YOUR sales and acquisitions, and general discussion about the auction venue itself, and, perhaps, some domain oddities that are popping up on the auction site, for example, high-priced domains that should be regfee.

:)

One caveat, though: for your own good, PLEASE do not reveal your auction win (or anyone else's, for that matter) until the domain has landed in your account because the original owner still has the option to renew it, and I know how vexing that can be. In other words, don't count your chickens until they're hatched.

On the other hand, if you're having second thoughts about your auction win, by all means tell us all about it.

I suppose that if an auction win is high profile, it's already out there, but, still...

Anyway, I'll start with three comments:

1. I won my first (and maybe last) intentional typo, and it's getting clicks (no $ so far, though): Forwx.com. I could not find a live TM on this term, but one never knows. I have mixed feelings about this one.

2. I accidentally clicked on a BIN that I didn't want (I wanted the one above it), but I decided to honor the bid anyway. Grrr..., so be careful before hitting the submit button. It's not in my account yet, so I can't really reveal it right now.

3. Currently, there's a weird .co domain at over $9,000, with three bidders duking it out. Again, I don't want to reveal what it is, but if you go to the most active auctions, it's number 1 (as of this posting).

Mods, I hope this thread is okay.

:)

This is what I see as the Registrar Info from March 19th. Does anyone see anything different?

whois lookup at whois.godaddy.com...
Domain Name: XXXXXXXX.COM
Registrar URL: http://www.godaddy.com
Registrant Name: Xxxx Xxxx
Registrant Organization:
Name Server: NS1.ABOVE.COM
Name Server: NS2.ABOVE.COM
DNSSEC: unsigned

For complete domain details go to:
http://who.godaddy.com/whoischeck.aspx?domain=XXXXXXXXX.COM

No longer can you see Registrar Expiry Date or Admin eMail unless you go to GoDaddy's website and enter the turing code.

What? Does nobody have an opinion as to whether GoDaddy have changed their whois presentation, or not?

I use who.is mostly, because I just type "who.is/whois/" + the name for quick access.

Godaddy has limited the whois info for .com, .net via who.is in 2012 already. Who.is has always just shown the limited info since then. .Org registrant info is still accessible from who.is, even if the domain is with Godaddy.

Godaddy's whois does show all the information for a domain that is with them.

I have registered a domain (less than 60 days ago) at namesilo.com and sold it for 550 on GoDaddy auctions last night. Anyone know how this transaction will go through and the transfer of ownership will work?

So is this selection process a temporary or permanent ban? How do they remember you? With a cookie?

Pretty sure they limit it to the who is provider.

Godaddy has been providing partial data for a long time - I think they should all do it.

Tell domaintools and others that harvest information to go eff themselves imho.

Just tried GD's whois on a few of my domains with them, and full info showed. Same with a couple registered elsewhere.

Weird... it shows full information for me now as well? The last week it was truncated. I'm not going to worry about it.

I can't get into the auctions this morning. I can go to Godaddy, can login to my regular account, but whether I'm logged in or not, I just get a 'cannot connect' blank page when I try go to the auctions. Same thing happens no matter which browser I use.

Anyone else having the same prob or is it just me?

Just called GD and all the premier services knows is that the auctions is under maintenance and dev will let them know of any developments.

Still not accessible for me. Seems a little odd. You don't generally do maintenance and dev during peak hours... I wonder if they'll be extending auctions an additional day.

I expect 'under maintenance' is pc for 'we're in the middle of a shitstorm, something's gone seriously wrong and we're all over it like seagulls on a garbage scow trying to find and fix the problem'.

If it was planned, they'd have given some warning and would have a polite 'down until 3pm today for maintenance' or something to that effect.

this is the message I got when trying to reach the auctions:

We are experiencing problems. We understand this is impacting some customers and we take this situation very seriously.

Everyone at GoDaddy.com is working to restore all sites affected by this outage as soon as possible.

It's ok, though. They added a nice picture of Danica. :)

Mobile version of godaddy auctions is working fine. I see many people to place bids via it.

Yeah, that would suck.

Also, shouldn't they have some sort of notice up on their Auctions homepage?

On Wednesday evening PDT I was bidding on some gTLDs from my pre-registration that went into the auction because there was more than one pre-registration buyers. Luckily I was the only bidder on 3 of the 4 domains I was bidding on but manage to grab all 4 of them. When I was ready to checkout, the cart didn't work. I called GoDaddy and they were clueless about the problem. I was lucky and managed to check out through my cell phone. I guess I broke it :)
