The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Nice name, but could probably only represent MR though.

I’m talking names where you can put the abbreviations together to make something – Big fan of the WeArVr brand.

I tried come up with something similar and come up with VRARUS pronounced V-R-AR(E)-US (like ToysRUs). No one has followed my train of thought with that yet though :xf.laugh: there’s a ARVRUS company though.

Only represent MR? For me MR is the spectrum (my bet) so if a company works in the MR space, they can brand with a name like that. Jmho.

Well, I hope you can get the price your looking for.
And more important, I hope it is a end-user looking at it and not just investor speculation.

Basically, i see true MR as a tech of its own, but its also (mainly) the spectrum for now (also for Microsoft). This is making branding with MR more likely, especially with Windows Mixed Reality (that will change soon to Windows MR.

As i mentioned before, i believe that MR will work on both sides (and inquiries for both sides are coming as of now)
About the offer, we didnt purchase it to sell it for x,xxx offers, its a waiting game for us.

Introduction to Mixed Reality (MR)

Mixed reality is used as an independent concept or to classify the spectrum of reality technologies, as referenced in the reality–virtuality continuum. As an independent concept, mixed reality combines the best of both virtual reality and augmented reality. When used to classify the larger scope of reality technologies, it refers to the coverage of all possible variations and compositions of real and virtual objects.

I'm not going into it again, but don't bet too much on that dude, i know people can be stubborn when they truly believe in something and will die by the sword with it rather than adapt.

Let me tell you though as someone with no blinkers on and has his eyes open to everything around, including a open mind on Mixed Reality (hence why i tried to by MixedReality dot com for a huge amount of money), VR and AR is going nowhere and Mixed Reality is still behind these (I'm talking WAY behind), the tech you call MR 80% of the world call AR, so try and get past that obstacle first before making outrageous claims like that, that I've only ever heard from 1 person (you).

It may sound like i hate MR sometimes, but i just call things how i see it dude.

Its fine lol.
Time will change everything, for all of us and will make things clearer. I don't think anybody (not me or you) can claim he knows what will happen and it means nothing for me that people call it AR now.
Once open a time automobile was a horseless carriage lol
MR is the spectrum for a only me :) (and the guys in Microsoft’s )
But again, im not starting any argument.. Just betting on a horse like everyone else and watching it all closely.

AR and MR are two different tech's.

The first company announcement that their future lies with mixed reality was only done 2 week ago.

Of course mixed reality is way behind because it is the future trend not current one.

Facebook, Google, Magic Leap, Samsung and even Apple all have a mixed reality strategy.

Reporters are not mistaking AR for mixed reality. They just don't know what is coming.
The one's who are getting it confused don't understand the difference between the tech's.

Don't get me wrong for mobile smartphones AR holds lots of promise. But Mixed Reality will be so much more advanced.

Mixed Reality is not going to be here for five years. But companies know a tech that combines elements of VR & AR and makes lots of extra stuff happen is where the future is heading.

17039425_1460084810715326_8307953215242060512_o.jpg

A talk is happening tomorrow morning about the advantages of branding with mixed reality. Some pretty big companies are attending the presentation so a few more mixed reality seeds will be planted lol.

Namepros will not be a decider if Mixed Reality will make it or not. That is down to some pretty big companies. Microsoft are on board, let's see who else joins them.

Longterm I cannot see companies not seeing the potential in offering a service that blends realities.

VR is cool
AR will be cool
MR will be cool

Branding as a company that offer all three elements is a no Brainerd to me.

Behind the scenes the tech industry see either MR or XR being this term. With Microsoft's push, I can see MR getting first chance in the overall spectrum department.

Neither AR or VR is being touted as potentially replacing the smartphone/computer/tv (not saying I personally agree with this)

But mixed reality offers a lot of promise, don't get all the hate but hey each to their own.

I have looked back through the AR thread and seen some comments from pretty respected board members saying that people were wasting money. Tim Cooke mentions the word AR and those same members are now liking the post lol.

But all I have to say is I have personally seen inside evidence that some companies that people think are AR, are actually changing their terminology to mixed reality (watch this space, and I am not referring to Apple).

Dont be a hater lol.

This is microsoft spectrum vision and i didn't make this video, i swear!
Microsoft are not god (and not apple) but this is their vision.

See this picture just sums it for me tbh, but probably what you not intended.

Believe me, I’d love nothing more than MR to be a thing owning the .com of what I do (Merged Reality), as it would be good news for me too, but I’m realistic with it.

When I type on ‘Mixed Reality + MR’ in on social media, it doesn’t take much scrolling to find some nutters going way over the top on MR. I go on NamePros and MR investors try to shove beliefs down people’s throats, coming out with bonkers statements like ‘VR/AR will soon be under MR’s wing’ – When Mixed Reality isn’t even a respected industry (yet) and MR is a non-existent abbreviation (right now) that only 1 company has branded with.

VR/AR/even Holo investors don’t do stuff like that on NP or social media, so why do MR folk?

Trying to force beliefs onto someone says to me something is being forced that simply isn’t there or there because of sources such as a loon who has a Mixed Reality headset on in a shower (who clearly isn’t bias) says so.

I read news articles/watch videos from the horse’s mouth (Tim Cook) saying Apple is into Augmented Reality and Apple see AR as the future, yet I come onto NamePros and see :-

raw

‘Apple see MR as the future’.

It’s all very cult like mate it has to be said or if that’s a too extreme of a word, very fanboyish.

Tim Cooke said he see's potential in VR + AR.

By me saying that they have a mixed reality strategy is agreeing with him.

The latest phones will have AR capabilities, I have no doubt about it.

But they are working on glasses which Apple insiders have said will be capable of mixed reality.

I do not think Apple will necessarily refer to it has mixed reality. But these glasses should allow hybrid realities to be experienced.

Is this 100%? No

But Robert Scoble has heard from what he considers trusted sources that these will be mixed reality capable glasses.

Also a startup that was purchased by Apple confirmed this before the deal had been finalised.

And I think you will find Cordoba usually says something against mixed reality, and then we respond lol

Look back through the thread and you will get a clearer picture.

I am usually responding to comments, not starting them ;)

I have never posted on twitter or linkdn, yes I know you are not referring to me.

Believe it or not I am not trying to plant a seed. Obviously I wan't everyone to make money in this thread, whether that's from VR/AR/Holo or MR.

This is my last post on MR because I find that my posts are not seen as constructive.

I will keep an eye out for the regular VR/3D and Holo relevant posts lol

Everyone has their own way researching things mate. Me personally I try and avoid being influenced by social media and a person’s ‘sources’ – Being a football fan, you always see it during transfer windows from reporters, 'sources say so and so is moving to Manchester United or Chelsea' and 95% it doesn’t happen.

When it comes to tech it’s even more secretive. Employees sign contacts to say they can't talk about projects a company they employed by (be it Apple/Microsoft/Google etc) is working on, to not give competitors any advantage.

So why would anyone (with any real influence) give any info to a social media rent-a-gob who will to go public with whatever they tell them? All I see with Robert Scoble is a guy who has a fondness towards Mixed Reality and is probably trying to influence the market.

I have known your stance for a long time mate.

And I agree that we should only invest in what we personally believe in.

I see why people have opinions on Scoble, I know I quote him lots but my research doesn't really come just from him.

I was invested in that tech before Scoble even mentioned the terminology.

Simple answer is I am a Facebook user, which is the format he also prefers, so I find it easy having a quick glance at his page.

I do chuckle when I get branded defending what I am invested in because I am invested in VR, AR, MR & Holo.

I remember you were the first person who helped me when I first joined this forum, you sent me a link to a domain checker website (yes I have had a name change since then so you probably don't remember)

Like I said I do always appreciate everyone's difference in views.

I know I say I won't post anymore mixed reality news but after a couple of days I will probably be getting withdrawal symptoms lol

Tim Cook did say something about AR having iPhone level game changer potential and he seems to be staying clear of MR as a tech term, unless I'm mistaken. Please correct me if I am wrong...Because I'd like to know.

MR seems to be mostly associated with Microsoft, and Apple tends to want to stay clear of any confusion with their largest competitors.

Apple has the power to affect what terms related services choose to use, so I'm not taking any chances of missing out. Just in case, I recent hand regged the following, none of which would have been available if so many domainers weren't so focused on MR :-D

OnlineARCasino - com
OnlineARCasinos - com
ARCasinosOnline - com
LiveARCasino - com
ARCasinoGames - com
OnlineARPoker - com

Also because of that "VR/AR" Gambling Conference. There really could be an "AR Casino" phenomenon someday...you never know!

I would not say Cook did not say AR was a big deal because we all know he did.

But he also said he see's potential in VR, just that AR was more promising.

Mixed Reality is capable of VR + AR so even Mac Rumours have suggested that he could be coy in his suggestions about AR and could be aiming for a mixed reality type tech that encompasses both.

Microsoft were an AR company who switched their focus to mixed reality. There are a few others that are currently doing the same behind the scenes.

I can 100% see the next iPhone being an AR phone, don't get me wrong.

But a carl zeiss employee who is working with apple on their smart glasses confirmed that they would be capable of mixed reality.

People might say how do I know this but I was watching a live facebook feed of Scoble interviewing a zeiss employee at CES and the employee definitely said the glasses would be capable of mixed reality. The post however no longer appears on Scoble's feed presumably to protect that individuals identity.

Anyway nice AR gambling domains mate. I have:

AR Slots (.com)

Which I am pretty pleased with.

You have really got to think when have apple ever been straight foward in outlining their exact intention for their next product? They always like to throw in an element of suprise.

No don’t stop talking about it mate, if Mixed Reality is what you’re interested in and passionate about this is the place to do it, I like reading about it too.

As said what makes me reply is when people start being unrealistic about something that isn’t even a thing yet and when I read blogs like this:-

https://www.namepros.com/threads/mixed-reality-domains.900000/page-84#post-6034991

This is not just a Mixed Reality thing, I’d probably reply the same way about Augmented Reality and even Merged if it was unwarranted.

ARSlots - com is spot on. Congrats!

I all this hype on this forum about MR could be exaggerated, to be honest. Consumers are still 1000x more familiar with Augmented Reality than MR, and corporations may follow suit with that, not wanting to fight against consumer familiarity.

From what it looks like, Apple is very likely to continue to use AR to describe their headset, because MS may have inadvertently made Mixed Reality sound like their own *signature* technology, discouraging Apple from wanting to associate with that term.

Apple's element of surprise as you put it, will probably be that they will release both a Mobile VR headset to compete with Daydream *AND* AR headset.

Yes anything is possible mate :)

Don't think we will have to wait too much longer to find out.

My guess is roughly another 6 months.

Hopefully they will show the glasses they have also been working on but if not the iPhone should be pretty impressive on it's own.

One thing though, mixed reality and AR are two different tech's.

I saw a user describe it pretty well on MacRumours:

"While I'm no Microsoft fan, the term mixed-reality is the right one.

VR - 3D models in a virtual 3D graphic space
AR - 2d layering of information and graphics on a cameras eye view of the world
MR - 3D models added to a cameras eye or 3D view of the world, i.e. Stereoptic through a head mounted device.

An iPhone mapping/navigation system using e.g. Metaio for object recognition would be AR

An Apple HMD e.g.: Zeiss glasses with 3D models rendered would be MR

We'll hear a lot about MR in future, for now Apple is correctly focused on AR and their vast iPhone installed base.

Apple are in a unique position to add augmented reality navigation to their device, this for me is the next generation of Maps, whichever of Apple or Google cracks this use case first will sell a vast number of devices... I think it will be Apple because Android is too fragmented as a hardware platform and this will require specialized hardware in the phone until there is a standard chipset available for competitors on Android. Hopefully Apples patents give them a head start."

360 video isn't VR but because consumers are more bombarded with VR as a terminology companies are preferring to name their products and services "VR". Everything that you wrote is of course accurate, but has little to do with consumer branding and sales terminology. This is a domain *name* forum, so most of our focus here is on what terminologies will be most lucrative. That being said, yes, indeed we'll hopefully get some answers soon from Apple this year. The have that coolness factor, so whatever term they choose to market with will have a VERY BIG influence on how everyone else in the ecosystem markets their products and services.

Tim is captivated by Pokémon Go and stated multiple times his interest in an AR direction, so it's possible that he's actually interested in AR as a technology, not just as a loose term for both VR and AR.

Surely we don't need to re-define what the formats are still ?
Given the opportunity, we will keep re-defining what they mean till it breaks....LOL... I'll explain that...
Everyone can have their own definition to fit their own purpose then here is mine...

Virtual Reality - Any perceived reality that is not your true (100% actual) reality.
Augmented Reality - A reality that changes/alters and/or superimposes your true reality.
Mixed Reality - See Augmented Reality. Came from the roots of 'virtuality'.
Holographic - Superimposed Image. Appears whole and complete but is not actually there.

Seems to me that this is what they meant before anyone had any hardware to do it with.

360 video is 360 video. It might be immersive and 3D or not. It can fit the definition of VR if it has the perception of reality. That is content dependent. Hollywood is likely to change some of the purist views out there on 360 very soon. Likely that the feeling of 'PRESENCE' will be the determining factor.

While not a requirement to fit any...
None of the formats are 'immersive' or have 'presence' without 3D. Without it, there is no depth perception.
It would be hard to perceive any of it as 'reality' without 3D because it is your natural world sense.

Folks gotta quit trying to define the REALITIES to fit existing hardware for separation purposes.
While you can keep doing it, it will keep changing.

I knew the re-definers would be out there when the new MR Goggles were out just because it broke the older definitions (i thought were wrong) based on the hardware that existed then, and I said as much many times last year knowing these were on the way.
These Reality's are concepts of fictitious/false perception. Hardware not included !
Want to name the hardware. Name it ! They are separate from the concepts perceived reality's.

Nobody in social media or a news blog are responsible for what they mean. Believe it or not !
Each time it happens, it diminishes all of it. If it keeps up, it will be named on the street and throw all your keyword investments away. It's one of the things that makes me more cautious than I would normally be.

While there may never be a Holodeck, we only need the perception of one. Batteries not included !
Does not include local taxes or fees. Not available in all areas. Consult your physician if your erection lasts more than 2 hours while Holodecking.

It's ok whatever it is all referred to. It all kicks ass. I'm enjoying using the PlayStation Vr. lol.
As more of a commoner/newbie/outsider to this domainers world......I think the average person lumps it all together as just 'Virtual Reality' or 'VR'.
2nd place, I would probably say I see/hear the term 'Mixed Reality' used. I think Mixed Reality is just the easiest/most elementary for people to combine the virtual & real world(A Mixed Reality).
Honestly, unless you have a horse in the race, it is all too confusing & intimidating.

But as a consumer the only thing that's been marketed is Virtual Reality because that is the only tech that is really with us in 2016-early 2017.

Now if you said to a member of the public that the virtual reality we currently have takes you almost to another world/environment when you put the HMD on most would get the concept.

Now if you said to that same person that in the future the idea is to bring a hologram into our actual living rooms that could interect with the surroundings it was placed into, that same consumer would probably understand the tech difference between what we class as virtual reality or holograms.

And this is exactly why new terms will be attempted to be marketed to the public. The experiences/content will be so different that the need for different terms will be essential.

At the end of the day everything video wise is just a video. But if I want to watch something in reasonable quality I have got used to typing in "HD" which brings a set of different results than if I typed my search in without it.

I personally know that if I am using Microsoft Windows/Apple iPhone/Computer Console/Internet and I keep seeing a certain keyword stairing back at me when I am looking for a specific criteria of content it won't take me long to realize that's the keyword for the content I am looking for.

If the Iphone comes out and says this is augmented it won't take long before your average joe starts accepting and getting used to using that terminology to search for the exact experience they are after.

This is why imo there needs to be more than just a virtual reality keyword in play.

Now I know I might fall into the consumer search habits vs branding trap here so I will also point out I see huge benefit in companies branding themselves with the acronym or keyword that would instantly let consumers know the exact tech experience a consumer could expect by using that given companie's content/experiences.

I have no problem myself in envisaging:

ArtVR (a company I would assume might offer a virtual reality art experience/content)

ArtAR (a company I would assume might offer a Augmented Reality art experience/content)

ArtMR (a company I would assume might offer a Mixed Reality art experience/content)

Cute lil sweeties, when few members here says- "do research", you should do research!

I don't understand why many splash slush here on many keywords without knowing what's cookin in the market! You guys should cool ur heels with some company insiders! :xf.wink:

I understand that every one has invested in their keywords / terms, boast about it, promote it, share it!
But why derogating other terms without proper research!?

Check this link: Mixed Reality (MR)

Check this Chart:

I am not saying that MR is very known term as much as VR & AR. But peeps, trust moi, IT IS catching up!

I received crazy offers / inquiries in last 3 weeks on my MR names! And from all over the world!
Major share from US & Europe but its China that's I am very excited about!

Talkers keep talkin....Watchers keep watchin....Investors gonna have the final smile!
N this is funny business!
Dont (be emotional) stick to what you want (market, companies wont listen to us),
Accept and flow with what's happenin out there! (listen/research those market / companies)
N u know what...few of u still got time to roll in!

Good Luck n Cheers!

Thought this video might be a good one for people because this was a company originally with an AR strategy that have shifted to a MR strategy.

The CEO of Sulon does a pretty good job I think of explaining his vision of mixed reality:

I have said before there are lots of companies behind the scenes shifting their focus.

This is not me trying to push anything mixed reality related. It is just trying to help a few people see that AR and MR can and imo will be considered two totally different tech's.

The relating article can be found here:

I think virtual related tech is going to revolutionise art, VRArt is one of my favorite keywords, I've tried to buy it a couple of times, i think it's going to be one of those VR+keyword names that will go onto be a new industry (like VRGames/VRP*rn etc).

What i like about VRArt though is the VR+AR abbreviations together (VRArt) so that's how i would promote it, i don't think the current owner (who's on here) as caught on with that yet.

Same for MRArt - I know not all MR investors like the MR abbreviation infront, but for the 'art' keyword i do think it would work best the 'MR' being on the left hand-side to keep the MRAR together.
