.io .io Thread and Showcase

Spaceship Spaceship
Watch
Bought a new .io domain through sedo last week a NN.io , bit of an investment and gamble but worth a shot in my opinion.

Anyone investing in .io domains? please feel free to share your investments.

Cheers

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Unless you are trademark lawyers, none of your opinions are very useful here.

Take it to pm's.

That's not entirely true. One can become very versed in trademark law by having filed many trademarks, or as in my case having a parent that was a trademark attorney and wanting his kids to be trademark lawyers ad nauseum. Especially when we are only giving Internet forum opinion.

Plus I slept at a Holiday Inn Express last night so there is that.

Excellent point! I try to look at US, Canada and EU myself. If you pass those three you are mostly home free. Each has an easy website so it doesn't take long. As the world "shrinks" I think there will be some precedent setting cases where individual country TM's laws come into conflict.

The question I'd like to know the answer to is, what if you own a domain name for 10 years and then someone creates a trademark using that name? Can they sue for the name?

In general you should be okay if you registered the domain before the TM was registered. Though you will have trouble ever reselling it to anyone but the TM owner since no reseller is going to want to buy a TM domain....

Thank you, sort of puts the domain into a corner then...

namecheap; comes to around $32, Although I like godaddy for $35.99 because it displays the organization field so you can display your website.

Who is the cheapest .IO registrar

I check here before purchasing, renewing, transferring. Not sure if that site considers coupons or "clubs" like Godaddys domain discount club but its not a bad place to get consolidated pricing.
https://www.domcomp.com/

Like others have said, Namecheap right now. Gandi has $24 transfers...

(I am not affiliated with that site in any way)

Thanks Jason, domain waiting to be acquired by a crowdfunding company that helps online startups using .io TLD

my .io is justdoit.io

You realize that domain is blatant tm infringement on one of the largest companies in the world? Nike has been using that as there slogan forever and you could easily lose this domain any day. Check where the .com, .org, and .net all point to

Kiln, Not really...Justdoit is a standard english words and unless I dont sell shoes, there is no issue. This is not a made up name like Nike...there are several other TLDs of same name which are not registered by Nike...

please check trademark rules and I have checked this and only then, registered this. Apple.org is not owned by apple...companies cant trademark standard english terms. Thanks.

@dhyinc that only applies to very generic words and phrases. I was just letting you know in case you weren't aware. I am very familiar with trademark rules cause I had a problem with two domains and then learned everything I could about it so I would not run into the problem ever again.

In this case I just think it is very risky cause Nike is a huge company and more and more law suits are being filed by big companies against domains and they always seem to win 99% of the time...and in this case the tm has an entire wikipedia page about it haha http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Just_Do_It

Nike have filed plenty of UDRPs, they are familiar with WIPO. Examples:
