Looking Forward... (crystal ball edition)
Near the end of the year, I'm looking forward to many things to come in the VR world and the implications of them to the NAMES market. I can't help but think of surprises along the way.
I know...
That mobile will be making 'major inroads' starting with the Samsung S8 in the spring.
That there will be many a NEW company at CES2017 with great new product idea's and many will be seeking VC funding to bring them to market. (I'll be checking them close)
Inside out tracking is a game changer and will be well represented in 2017.
3D scanning and object recognition via smartphone will be a 'thing' in 2017 for use in VR/AR
I am pretty sure of the following...
There will be no less than 8 offerings that include 6DOF in 2017
120 degree FOV will become a new standard to meet by the end of the year.
We should see a few major deployments of HoloLens in Enterprise.
The major competition between Intel and Qualcomm hardware platforms will yield faster development.

And here is a few 'what if's' to keep you thinking...
What if...
HoloLens works on the new X-Box (TBR spring 2017) (The Rift has been stated to work with it as is) ?
Apple has no VR device till 2018 when the manufacture of OLED screens for them is ready ?
* Many VR mobile devices 'dub' as a AR device via front facing camera ? *

There is no doubt in my mind that the hardware side of this is rolling, including 3rd party add-ons.
But it is the software side of things that could lead to the largest surprise's for the coming year.
You just don't know what is being dev'd in those hidden places of private development.
Within them, are the keys to most of those names sales for next year.

WORDPRESS now directly supports VR content via WebVR.

The only shoe that has to drop in that arena now is for omnispheric cameras to be on the cheap and anyone can self-publish in VR.

The vast majority of websites are built with either wordpress or are using are a wordpress engine.

Apple since 1995 have used a certain term there have been a number of patients filed where they constantly mention a 3d hyper reality experience .

Hr is great tech term and can be used for hybrid reality and hyper reality my favourered term for apple so hr works for both.
