It seems that 3D is going to be the the next must have technology, according to the big brands, they are all launching 3D TVs.

I attempted to find good 3D names but the best domains are already taken, I think in 5 years time or even less, those generic 3D domains will be worth a lot. :imho:

Anyone else registering 3d domains? Do you think they have a future?

Great post oldtimer, thanks
You are welcomed :)

I see that you are already ahead of the game, the 3dChannel and 3dRecorder domains that you have are some of best that I have seen on this thread and have a lot of potentials once the 3d technology becomes more mainstream. IMO

Ok, I'll try!

So, you're going out to purchase a mini camera/camcorder tommorow...
You're gonna spend $200 - $2000.

No matter what you want to buy, you want the one w/the most options right?
What if 3d becomes 1 extra option?
If so, I want that one.

3DMiniCam.com
3DMiniCams.com
3DMiniCamera.com
3DMiniCameras.com
3DMiniCamcorder.com
3DMiniCamcorders.com

I think I gotcha. :)

Well my friend they don't call it mini cam anymore
Because all cameras are mini.
They use to be called mini cams because of the monster cameras that were out.
There are no consumer mini cameras sold anymore.
Believe me I was in the video buisness for 30 years

I would dump those minicamera names

If you would have only chosen 3dminimouse instead,
Im just having fun here

Hmmm,
You might be right, OR you might be just be pissed/jealous
beause you threw out that challenge and I won..."top that"! JK.

Thanks for the info, but I like the search #'s for these terms, (especially w/the mini and cam seperated) and the amount of ad's.
I'll keep them for a little bit, and do some more research on them.:)

Take it easy.

I would love to say i made it up, but i first saw that name posted in Engadget, and i don't know if they heard it somewhere, or everyone started calling it that thereafter, but it seems to be gaining a lot of steam lately... small search numbers at the moment (3,600 + ) a month but not bad considering this phone didn't have a name when it first came out
:0

TWO big ifs..
IF they stay being called "WINMO" (which is very catchy and MUCH better than windows 7 mobile) and IF they come out with a 3d phone (my money's on YES)

O boy!

plus...
google recognizes 'WINMO' as 'Windows Mobile', which is obviously something you want and furthers my thought process

***Update***
Looks like there will be a 3d Winmo ... : )

Hey everybody....
can I get your feedback on .co.uk names

for one, I had FIELD DAY buying up those... HUGE estimated money in what I grabbed there... and I BARELY left a scratch as there are still MANY great names available

i just checked Acorn and found out that 3dPrinters.co.uk sold for roughly $750 USD in 2008? was it?
Some of the .co.uk names I have are better than that... should I be excited?

I understand less value in less visitors, but does anyone else wonder WHY so many of those names have been left available?.... does that market usually take a bit of time to warm up to 'trends' like this?
I'm sure eventually they'll be just like dot-coms and all gone also, but I don't know if ishould feel excited about my .co.uk portfolio or nervous.

Anybody have any ideas?

i think terms like music would do ok , because you could sell uk music artists dvds or shopping items that are local to the uk could also do well, if i was in england ans spotted 3dtv.co.uk i would know it's local to the uk ....... i would feel at ease dealing with this site because i can contact them if need be , i mean a cheap phonecall , or back up service if i purchased a tv from them

This thread has offically turned into a pumping thread.

Let me explain for the noobs what is going to happen over the next 6 months.

Some people registered a ton of 3D domains and now they have to sell them for a profit. This may be a classic buyout type scheme where a group secretly conspires to work over other domainers.

That is where pumper threads come in. They will agressively post in them (fake nicks included) with the goal of creating 3D domain hype.

They will then sell most of their 3D domains through the hype created by the threads and ride off into the 3D sunset.

Meanwhile, the domainers who somehow thought this was a great long term play will be left here to take part in what will become a very ugly thread. Posts will be deleted. Members will be banned on both sides of the argument.

Enjoy the ride.

Here is why 3D domains will be huge and profitable.
What makes 3D such a big thing is the fact that the viewer will have to pay full attention to the movie, advertisement or website they are looking at. Whatever they are watching they will be looking for the next thing flying at them or the next cool effect. 3D is a mind buzz its not for the casual viewer. I remember seeing U2 in 3D and I will tell you I was looking all over that screen to see the littlest thing. The ending of that show was better than the entire concert and everyone walked out because they thought it was over. I wanted see every inch and I'm glad I stayed to the end it was a 3D masterpiece.

When a 3D website is going to be built it's not going to be just slapped together a company is going to have to build a 100 - 200 thousand dollar mind experience. When one company produce's it and gets to market first just like Avatar the rest of the companies will follow right along.
Consumers will have to know that what they are about to click on is going to be a 3D experience so it must have 3D in the domain. If a consumer is not into 3D then that companies 2D website will be there for them. Once revenues from 3D websites show 10 percent increases or higher every domain name will be snatched up. Right now its a wait and see game but soon this will change, The new LED HD 3D TVS that are internet ready through wifi will be a showcase for these 3D websites that you are going to see , This will be The New Internet. These websites will be there own 3D channels instead of websites even though they are coming through the internet.

I think new investment dollars will come and come quick when this thing starts to go,

Don't think every company is going to just keep there domain and add a slash they will advertise JoeBlow3d.com to make it easier for consumers to find the sites. If you have not already seen Apple has received a patent for its new 3D Virtual World Web and once that kicks off and YouTube3D kicks off its all over.

I can see a TOYO Tire buying tires3d.com for easy search, hey are you going to google to put in TOYO or tires ? If you see tires3D.com are you going to say gee 3D tires what's that and boom the company will see traffic like no other. Just the curiousity factor alone will be enough for all 3D domains to flurish

Get your domains ready.http://www.namepros.com/images/smilies/santa.gif

Hey Froy,

I did some checking on what you said about my 3DMini Cam domains.
3DMiniCam.com
3DMiniCams.com
3DMiniCamera.com
3DMiniCameras.com
3DMiniCamcorder.com
3DMiniCamcorders.com

Maybe you as a Camera Salesman for 30 years use different terminology for cameras,
but the overwhelming majority still recognizes and uses the term "mini" before cam, camera, and camcorder.

I checked out 2 Huge online, and Brick n Mortar Stores, and searched for each of these Porducts.
Here's what I found...

Best Buy
49 items found for " mini cam " in All Categories
47 items found for " mini camera " in All Categories
46 items found for " mini camcorder " in All Categories

Wal-Mart
20 results found for "mini cam"
20 results found for "mini camera"
15 results found for "mini camcorder"

I believe I am still happy with them. :)
Thanks for the info though.

DubDubDubDot,

There are a lot of times I agree with your brutal honesty.
But you are waaay out of line here this time Buddy.

This is no elaborate scheme here.
There is clearly a HUGE niche that we haven't even began to see the potential for yet.
Everyone is doing the best they can to secure a piece of the pie, That's it.

Long term hype??? I don't believe at all for one minute that this is hype.
3D technology is here, and more to come at break neck speed.

Secret Group??? C'mon.

I have a secret domain you may wanna buy from me...
ConspiracySpace.com

Regular 2d .coms will be worthless in a few years
All companies will have a 3d website
Most companies will have a 2d site and a 3d site so consumers have both options.
This EXACT argument was made for .mobi, .tel, and sometimes for .tv...... That a specially designated domain was going to be necessary to alert users of a special website format. This is a VERY noobish argument and it has been proven to hold no water.

To a certain point, I do agree with what you're saying, there are few people who are just trying to hype up the 3D angle because the they have 100's of names and they are wondering how they will get rid of them.

On the flip side, I do feel there is potential with quite a few of the names, but whether people are willing to put in the work to either develop the names, or chase some worthwhile end-users, is another story. I think 95% of the names will remain parked until the time comes for renewals, and then they'll be dropped.

3DTV will be big IMO, but domainers need to very careful not to fall into the trap of regging, 20..30...100 names in the same niche, try and get names in different areas, Sport, Home Cinema, Travel, Games etc

Even I am guilty of it a bit, but I certainly try and pick my names carefully. You are better off approaching the owners of some of the great names and see if they want to sell.

Anyway, good luck guys/gals
