Thanks for clarifying gartrout.
I can see how that might help get a buyer who didn't yet pay into gear, interesting technique. : )

I sold a domain, Bido was paid, and I pushed. The WHOIS is now showing that the new owner took control of the domain on Sep 17th (confirmed by Godaddy). But I have not received funds. There is a support ticket open regarding this issue.

Overall, I'm VERY HAPPY with Bido's customer service (and my recent sales) but I do think there should be some level of oversight to insure the buyer confirms receiving the domain in a prompt manner so the seller can receive payment. IMO.

I believe this is essential if BIDO is to succeed.

Just to note: I got paid for my 3 eligible transactions via PayPal. I'm a happy camper :)

The ticket was opened an hour prior to your posting, our office was closed. We will look into this when the office opens, no worries.
We also have the escalation tool designed if you feel the other party is delaying your transaction, just click "escalate" and it will bring it to our attention. Regards.

Thank you. My post was mostly directed toward the overall weakness in that area of the system and not one particular incident. There should be some type of check and balance to make sure the buyer promptly confirms receiving the domain. Opening a support ticket each time should not be necessary. IMO.

As I stated, I'm very pleased with Bido customer service. :hi:

Hi all,

I too am very impressed with Bido customer service. I PM'd MediaHound with a couple of questions, and he answered me promptly and very nicely. Also, a ticket I opened got an almost instantaneous answer, with problem solved.

One thing I have noticed is (I'm sorry if this has already been mentioned here) that, having submitted domains, I didn't receive verification emails for all of them. Also, Bido's bot doesn't seem to be able to access WHOIS records too well.

Anyway, overall I think it's a really cool platform. I haven't ever auctioned domains before, so I'm interested to see how things go.

Here are the domains I submitted, by the way: BondRatings.info (.com sold for 4500$), DVDTorrent.net (1.000.000 monthly searches- this is the one I've had verification problems with), and Pokerules.info. If you're interested in them, please vote!

Matt

Also, Bido's bot doesn't seem to be able to access WHOIS records too well.

I find this to be true as well. Especially over the past week. I have 4 domains that were updated 24 hours ago with the Bido code and the bot is unable to verify the updated WHOIS records.

I've checked various WHOIS services and the records have updated and propagated.

Same here with about 25-35% or so of my domains. I was able to verify them eventually though.

And of the 31 submitted, emails were sent to only 2 of them, despite a working email address in the whois :p

@MediaHound

Will you be accepting .ca's for the auctions, or does their
ownership restrictions ruin any chance of it?

 ^This type of cr@p currently sits at No 1 in "Things that give the internet a bad name as a hideout for freaks and scumbags of the lowest order"

I hope it bombs like a Le(a)d Zeppelin.

Wow; harsh words. While I personally don't think I'd be visiting the site, it is certainly a subject matter that gets traffic. Also, what do you have against freaks? Lol.

Anyway, I'm not going to wish anybody bad luck because we have different tastes. So, let's hope the name goes over like Led Zep. Best Wishes to all.

Hey thanks for such a positive post, maybe you have forgotten that we are domainers (we sell names) usually not the content.

but if you don't mind... feel free to post anything you feel about this name, here or any other place,
as I really do appreciate the attention brought to it!!

Thanks Desiredname, for your good words

Lame - I saw your 'advert' for it on Bido

Don't whine about me being 'positive', when you're happy for that domain to end up attracting the bottom-feeding pond life of the WWW.

Did you mark your calendar, I wont be mad if you are the opening bid either :o

It's working alright. But in a negative sense. And not just in regard to this one sale.

Don't give yourself RSI refreshing the page waiting for me to turn up.

*rolls eyes* It's an indecent topic but it's not THAT bad. NECROPHILIA would be, yes, but 'gruesome pictures' could be non-dead things as well.

I should also point out sites like rotten.com: This is rotten dot com are still thriving. (DON'T click on the link if you're faint at heart)

Lol, hopefully we don't have any necrophiliacs running around here, but if they want to sell the .com (or other tld; I won't be prejudiced), then more power to them.... Maybe it could be a site about the disorder rather than a meeting spot for the afflicted.... anyway, I'm rambling.

One other thought on the gruesome photos domain though: I could almost see this being something useful Radiator... though it probably won't end up being used this way... Do you remember the videos they showed you in Driver's Ed? Perhaps you could use a name like this for a site that showed gruesome photos of why you need to be careful... I've also seen similar footage in construction job orientations and even when I was in boot camp (those were of STDs and why you really wanted to be careful). Anyway, I guess my point is that the domain may not be something you particularly like, but I don't think that this is the proper "forum" to insult or attack other domainers. That said, I've read quite a few posts from you in other threads and I agree with you a lot of the time. Anyway, hopefully I don't start an argument with you, because that certainly isn't my intent.

Best Wishes to all.

Americans will soon see gruesome pics on cigarette packs to show ppl what damage the things can do (thank God I quit). This domain has the applications necessary for something truly helpful.

A domain like ChildPorn.com has only one real application and a theoretical owner couldn't really justify using it in any other way. But GruesomePictures.com could be used in an array of ways -- well, not really "a lot of ways" but its intent can be tenfold over the child porn one. This could be used for good and bad... can't say that about the child porn domain.

This is the kind of garbage it would end up propagating, and you all know it:

Nikki Catsouras photographs controversy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gruesomepictures.com has all the air of 'educational' that gigantic zit on the face of humanity, R*tten does, i.e. NONE. There's a million things to do with one's time - gawping at people's actual severe injury/death isn't a valid one. Not for anyone who thinks of themselves as a worthwhile use of skin anyway.

You just can't/ pretend not to, see it because of all the dollar bills you see floating before your eyes. Analogous to the whole Bido situation really - "Who cares if bank names can be appropriated by some cyberspace Jolly Roger to potentially fleece millions of unsuspecting people of their hard-earned cash, as long we get paid dude?" Even labrocca is enthusiastically signing up now, and I haven't seen anyone moan about TM issues here more than him

Archangel, I wasn't going to mention this til now, but your talk of child porn sites reminds me of a site you said you once had - 'RussianPreteens' or something similar. Now how would that be 'used in an array of ways', huh?

I know you said you got rid of the abomination, but why did you end up with it in the first place??
