Spaceship Spaceship
In this week’s Top Topics, we have a couple of investors looking for advice on offers that have been received. One encounter involves a declined offer on a hand registered name whilst the other asks for advice on a $1,000 offer. Elsewhere, after the US Presidential Election, we hear the story of what happened to the owner of Trump.org after an encounter with President-Elect Trump’s attorneys.

Here’s this week’s Top Topics.

I Declined a $700 Offer. Did I Make a Mistake?

Just six days after registering a domain name, domain investor @jamaltq received a $700 offer. The domain in question is TurkeyCompanies.com, and the $700 offer was made through a marketplace, according to the discussion. After declining the offer, @jamaltq sent a counter offer at $1,900; a price that was calculated based on other similar sales.

However, the investor has received no reply. Did they make a mistake in declining the original $700 offer? A return of $700 on an $8 registration within 6 days isn’t bad. Has this sale been lost? Have your say in the discussion.

Watch Me Potentially Lose a Deal

Along similar lines to the discussion above is this one, in which domain investor @000 documents a $1,000 offer he received for a generic two-word .COM name. According to the discussion, the buyer is from a European medical company, and made no effort to disguise their identity.

The investor has been looking for input from the community on whether to accept this offer or not. As always, there are a number of different opinions here including countering the initial offer, accepting it and speaking with the potential buyer on the phone. Is a $1,000 offer an indication they’ll be prepared to pay more, or should the initial offer be accepted?

I Bought Trump.org, and Then Donald Came After Me

This has been a historic week for the USA, as Republican candidate Donald Trump won the presidential election. Just a matter of days before the election, intellectual property attorney John Berryhill shared an interesting article with the community, in which the owner of the domain name Trump.org described their run in with Donald Trump and his attorneys.

John Berryhill is mentioned in the article, since he represented the owner of Trump.org, sending a sharply worded response to Donald.

There’s Still Money in Hand Registered Domains

For newer investors, the advice is usually to buy expiring names, or privately acquire domains from investors or individual owners. However, one investor has told the community of their belief in hand registered domains and their potential for investment.

According to @Arpit131, there is money to be made in hand registered names if you buy the right kind. He goes on to say that out of 18 hand registered names, five have produced sales within a short amount of time. What’s your opinion on hand registered names?

Once a Niche Is Trending, Are You Too Late?

Many investors make a lot of money by capitalising on domain name trends such as the Chinese premium domains, new technology domains and brandable names. By entering and exiting these trending niches at the right time, there is plenty of opportunity to make money.

This week, an investor has asked whether it is too late to invest in a niche when it is already trending. What do you think? Is there room for late comers to a trending niche, or do you need to enter a niche early to have any chance of success?
