Afternic has closed its domain marketplace
Citing a new approach that takes visitors to GoDaddy and away from Afternic, the company has ended its domain marketplace accessibility. Searching the inventory is now available via the GoDaddy Academy, a paid service. Has GoDaddy lost its marbles completely? Share your opinion.

Bet.bet was sold for $600,000 USD by Top.Domains
The short, repeating keyword/gTLD domain Bet.bet was reported as sold for a whopping $600,000 dollars. The sale was part of the Top Domains inventory of domain names, making it the largest gTLD sale in recent memory.

Seeking advice on Selling Beij.ing to the Chinese market
The beauty of domain hacks, combinations of keyword and TLD that form a continuous word if one disregards the dot, is demonstrated in the case of Beij.ing. Its registrant is now seeking advice on how to approach Chinese buyers who'd love to own "Beijing."

Do not transfer any domain if they just renewed during the 45 day Auto-Renew period
When you let a domain expire but then renew it, don't transfer it out to another registrar until 45 days have passed. The reason: the transfer won't add another year. Find out which TLDs follow this little-known rule.

Are older .com domains worth more?
This old debate rose again: Are domains that were registered years ago more valuable than newer registrations? Domainers share their opinions on domain age as a valuation parameter. Join the discussion and find out what experts believe.

Thanks for highlighting the discussion around Afternic search. We’re committed to optimizing the Afternic platform and we continue to focus on providing the best tools and features for sellers through Afternic.com, while giving buyers a frictionless way to buy domains through Afternic's network and sale landers. Doing so helps us stay focused on delivering the highest sell-through rate for sellers.

This decision to transition searches to GoDaddy was based on data showing less than 1% of sales came from Afternic Search, primarily by expert buyers who often start with a GoDaddy Search before going to Afternic.

As you mention, a deep dive into Afternic's inventory is available through GoDaddy's Domain Academy.

You "forget" that sellers also used Afternic search e.g. to look at comparative listings and their pricing. Now you want them to pay for that. You focus on greed.

When I see replies like this from big companies I always wonder if it's:

GoDaddy Employee --> ChatGPT --> NamePros

or

GoDaddy Employee --> NamePros

Either way, since @GoDaddy is here please take a look at the Afternic thread.

There is a widespread issue of scammers listing domains they don't own.

Please add nameserver ownership verification prior to listing the name.

This way scammers can't list domains they dont own.

Thank you.

Removing afternic search instead of improving it = providing a frictionless way to buy domains?

Oh the friction:

Yes, your fraudulent listings remain out of control. And now GoDaddy is directly responsible for showing many of these listings on your very own search page.

It is truly saddening, baffling and deeply disturbing that you still do not bother verifying ownership before posting those domains for sale on your website. Doesn't integrity matter to your company?

As a seller I am not impressed by the visuals or the elimination of the marketplace. As a buyer, I am pissed off. The 1% represents 99% of domain investors.

Exactly! I can't tell you how many places I've seen that "less than 1% of sales come from afternic search [the same underdeveloped search that contains lots of unverified listings]" repeated like a commercial trying to echo a corporate talking point.

As a seller I am not impressed by the visuals or the elimination of the marketplace.

Well now we know why the visuals were cloudy.

On an unrelated note, I've had an uptick of afternic/GD Broker sales so far this year. Sales closed from fast transfer, GD brokers, and even an Afternic broker. I do wonder why I was contacted by an afternic broker, and not a GoDaddy broker for one of my recent sales. Domain was listed on afternic with a bin, but had a BB landing page. I have to assume the buyer came from an affiliate website, or possibly the afternic search, and used a broker to try and get a discount.

Nice collation of key discussions, @Acroplex.

It includes an important change, huge sale, challenging name to appraise accurately, way to not waste money, and an age old domain question! Something for everyone, although the first topic will, justifiably, get the most discussion.

Thanks again,

Bob
