Surprise, surprise...

Avocado sold for $500. Not bad for a $40 purchase here at NP 2 months ago :imho:

FYI, the .com bought it for defensive purposes. Not sure what that says for .co :|

I need to resample the zone, perhaps I'll have something by tomorrow. But I think the figure must be right and indicates there is still growth.

But of course, that figure in itself doesn't tell much about the level of development for example.
But a quick glance at the top NS is more telling in this regard.

My latest count

That would put Godaddy's share of the market at around 40% or so. That would give it a similar profile to .mobi. I'm tempted to run a .co web survey just to see what is happening in the .co ccTLD. I don't consider the web usage stats that COInternet publishes to be a competent and accurate analysis of web usage in the ccTLD. By incorrectly classifying the Godaddy PPC landing page for undeveloped domains as a generic redirect, it massively understates the amount of PPC parking. The US concentration, especially on Godaddy, is worrying and the ccTLd might be on the way to becoming a Bubble Zone where most of the growth is based on speculation and more new registrations go up for sale or PPC rather than for development or brand protection. Most new TLDs have some element of speculation but it is not a reliable long term growth strategy. There has to be some element of wider development.

I agree fully, which is why I'd like to see less extensions till we see more development on the ones already there.

In a story just out by ABCNews/Univision entitled “The Americas: 13 to Watch in 2013” sitting among people and topics like the President of Mexico Enrique Peña Nieto, Hugo Chavez and President Barack Obama, the .CO domain name registry came on at number 11 on the list:

“This year we saw some major changes in the Americas in regards to business, technology and politics. 2013 should be all the more interesting. Here are thirteen people and things to keep an eye on this year.”

11. .CO: This Colombian start-up is out to break the .com monopoly of domain names. .CO (pronounced “dot co”) is positioning itself as the hip domain option for startups and creatives.

I just bought seedy.co I might develop it into a mail order plant seed site or I might just sit on it. Anyway, are there any discount codes at Godaddy for .co ? I know they're only 9.99 but I'm tight fisted :)

I've been seeing more and more .co being promoted.
Unfortunately it's just on people's old license plate frames where the m on .com has faded :|

These are great sales but notice something...they are still the names that are in the best 10,000. There still isn't a market for ALL .co. You are looking at another 3 years for that.

The numbers .co has disclosed don't make any sense. Last year they had 1.3 mill. regs. Now they are claiming 1.4. Prospect is 2.0 for next year. No chance.

Great extension but be careful what you buy. ALL sales have been in the top 10,000 names.

---------- Post added at 11:26 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:19 AM ----------

Here is a quote from Juan. Take it as you will, but somehow that doesn't seem like a "huge" year for the aftermarketers:

"Said Juan Diego Calle, Founder & CEO of .CO Internet, "It’s hard to believe we’re rounding out yet another year. 2012 was huge for .CO, so I wanted to take this opportunity to share with you some of my favorite highlights of the past twelve months.

Today there are over 1.4 million .CO domain names registered by people in over 200 countries worldwide. The .CO namespace has grown more than 24% from 2011 to 2012 – and renewals remain consistently strong. Our .COmmunity is only getting bigger and better, with tons of startups, small businesses, innovators and entrepreneurs choosing to build the future on .CO every day."

18 months and a gain of 50,000 registrations. Like I said, great extension but at least three years before the "outer" .co names have good value. If you have the time, wait it out. If you don't, stay with .com.

Engineering.co was on SEDO list ending on 10/15.

Sugar.co 7/23.

Childcare.co was on DNJournal for April.

I guess when there is no other news, just double report the sales.

Is there a big .CO auction coming up or something else to promote?

Brad

Easy.co, Sugar.co and several other names were also published in the DomainNameSales Industry Sales tab yesterday. The range for Sugar.co was listed as $5-10k, which doesn't make any sense considering how much it sold for on Sedo.

I thought that was strange.

Some of these sold last year, so it looks like this could be a summary.

Anyway in the last couple of weeks 4-5 LLL.co's sold in the $x,xxx at Sedo.

No. It confuses people because they see sales listed with the current date and assume it's accurate. I learned about the. CO sales prices on DNS from someone on Twitter. It's fine for DomainNameSales to summarize sales, but they are all listedbas "Jan. 9, 2013" the day they were added, NOT the day (or even the year) they sold.

It's very misleading. It's so easy for people to spread misinformation in mere seconds these days. I am skeptical about sales figures I besides those listed in DNJournal.

The fact that sales are still going on is a good thing. I've turned down a few offers on Cubicles dot co but I'm getting to the point where I want to sell everything off and fund other projects.
