The voting will take place for the last two months of 2021 the poll closes on December 31,2021.
You can make up to 3 choices. This way you will have plenty of time to think about your vote, you will have time to change your votes if you so desire.

Employees are prohibited from voting.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
1. Dynadot
2. Porkbun
3. Name.com

I also love Hexonet, but I hate their prices :)

I like Porkbun too, (oink)

Is there any easy way to find previous polls?

It seems like Dynadot always does well in the domain community.

Even when they didn't win, in a poll involving lobbying and other shenanigans, they still finished 2nd and lost by far fewer votes than the number of employees the winner had on NamePros.

That is a good rule.

Brad

Well well well... how the turntables have turned.

This thread should be
Your favorite registrars of the year 2021.
3 choices.

Should have another thread.
The king of registrars of the year 2021.
1 choice.

It would be interesring to see how dynadot truly performs.
With 3 choices everyone will select dynadot (obviously), but maybe they have a preferred registrar that comes 1st.

3 choices, can clearly see shift in tides, who's lagging behind.
1 choice, we see the true runner ups.

Maybe you can make that happen @equity78
Would be interesting to see.

No I can't make that happen, we are only having one yearly poll. I always made it one choice but over the last couple years members wanted more than one choice. So that's how it happened.

The title of this thread is "Your Favorite Registrar of the Year 2021" , Registrar not RegistrarS"

The outcome will be 1 winner, at least that's how I am reading this. It also clearly states that
multiple votes are allowed. I picked only one.

Many polls use this exact same format, but they are often weighted by preference.

For instance -

1st choice gets 3 points.
2nd choice gets 2 points.
3rd choice gets 1 point.

It is kind of moot at this point anyway, at least when it comes to Epik. It is clear without the lobbying and employee voting Epik is not a serious contender to actually win.

The data breach probably didn't help either for obvious reasons, but others in this thread have mentioned several other reasons their votes have changed - loss of Afternic partnership, Paypal, etc.

The reason Epik is not winning is not because of the format of the poll.

Brad

My post has nothing to do with Epik, mate. I even said they were not on my top 3 choices and I couldn't care less which place they're getting. It's just that I'd like to hear from the poll creator why change from one choice to 3 choices as I believe it was a crappy decision, that's all.

We cannot have preferential polls, we asked for it a year ago.

The solution is to have 2 polls at the end of year.
1 choice, and 3 choices. Won't kill anyone, only makes namepros and results more interesting.

With 1 choice
Dynadot/namesilo/porkbun might come first.
Godaddy will come ahead of namecheap
epik will get 0 votes, or who knows.

Whole different insight.
It wont hurt anyone, it wont be confusing.

Someone's welcome to start it

For example.
Theres hate on GD, but those that voted GD, might be their 1st choice.

Epik, maybe people are just giving them 3rd vote for solidarity or wtv.

Dynadot, maybe a portion of voters prefers another registrar over them.

Namecheap, maybe they are 2nd or 3rd choice to all that voted for them.

Porkbun, same as namecheap.

Strong points, reality.
Which is why it would be great to have 2 polls at the end of year.
Best registrars.
King of registrars (or another wording).

Just to see the results.
Since its once a year.

Single choice poll, dont allow changing votes, and dont allow seeing results before voting.
So that its elections day sincerity.

I have nothing against Joe at all and I have been a loyal GoDaddy customer for over 10 years now, but found it odd that he started mocking which I have not seen him do before, sometimes you have to listen to customer's complaints so the company or forum or whatever can learn and grow from.

PS And yes I still am GD's customer and even voted for them in the top 3, but I have to say I moved most of my domains out after the Brent Oxley incident when they held his premium domains hostage in the legal matter, which may be one of the reasons for their declining poll numbers.

But hey that's just my opinion, nothing personal, back to topic.
I was joking around implying that Domain Investors are smarter than you think especially at something in their wheelhouse, scanning lists of names in no particular order to find the gems. Sometimes people dont get my dry sense of humor which is why i included a smiley emoji ;)

I am serious. But I don't know the current state of Dynadot. Maybe it's better now. I first and last used Dynadot account around 5 years ago. They were offering low transfer fees at that time. I transferred some domains as a way of cheap renewal. Then I transferred back all domains after the 60 days lock period.

I hated their control panel. I have never seen such a thing. It was extremely user unfriendly for me. I remember it was keeping asking my birthday or something like that for a simple update on domain. I haven't experienced such a thing. That wasn't the end. It was not allowing DNSsec or nameserver registration at that time. I can't remember all the problems now. But I remember that Dynadot control panel wasn't only user unfriendly but also was lacking some functionalities which some of my websites need. Even Godaddy control panel is better than Dynadot. Because Godaddy is only user unfriendly for me but not lacking any domain functionality. Also I remember making payment to Dynadot was somehow different and difficult. Probably there was an account credit system in which user can pay in advance and spend later with discount or a system something like that. I probably left some dollars as account credit when I left. Again, Dynadot has the worst control panel I have ever used.

I don't think you can base you opinions today on what you saw 5 years ago. I did a quick check. I started using Dynadot in about 2006. Although it took about 3 years to get most of my domains into Dynadot. I probably only use maybe 10% or less of the features in Dynadot. I understand the "once bitten, twice shy, way of thinking" , and you are welcome to yours :) But I would have been a little bit curious after 5 years of non-use, what you might be missing that everybody seems to be voting for them. It's OK if you use your registrar differently to me and everbody else who uses them. But I have never has a problem requesting features to be added. Not all are granted of course. For example it was my suggestion to have a variable for the domain name. That was a huge step forward when they implemented that. A long time ago. So they have always been happy to oblige useful suggestions. BTW. Which is your preferred registrar?

Employees are prohibited from voting.
Several verified representatives of Epik have requested that their staff badge be removed after this poll started.

We believe that's related to the Epik hack and not a manipulation of this poll, but it seems relevant to mention in this poll given that employee votes are prohibited:
As mentioned, the non-core upstream developments have largely been put in hold in order to focus on the core.

Agreed. I am surprised how dynadot has received the most votes here on a domaining forum.
All NamePros team members, including us moderators, are prohibited from voting in polls as of 2021. It's disabled for us. Learn more.

You can tell by the amount of members posting comments in support of Dynadot that these poll results are representative of public opinion. You can also see the voters' usernames in the previous poll where the results were set to public by the pollster:

That said, there are a lot of great registrars and the competition is very healthy. It wouldn't be surprising to see a different registrar win each year given such a healthy competitive environment and more registrars beginning to engage with the community.

The real winners are decided by the registrars that you use.

Choose wisely. :)

I contacted them twice and twice they said that they do not offer fast transfer and that I would need to wait days.
Even the below screenshot from Dynadot chat says that so not sure how you debunked anything haha.
It is just your words against their. I guess I do not need to tell you who I believe.

If fast transfer is possible in your opinion, would you be so kind to tell me how exactly you do that?
For now I think you just confused registrars.
I would love to be wrong with that because I bought some domains here which are with Dynadot and would be happy to be able to transfer them out fast.

Sure. You provide the authcode to the buyer. After they have started the transfer. Dynadot provide a link to approve the transfer away. Simple.

Name.com is my favorite registrar - Good pricing with an easy to use domains interface.
The support team does a good job, though I would prefer if they slightly improved their response time.

I feel Dynadot will win this year by a mile ... and rightly so. Hard (and smart) work always pays off.

Namesilo has always been on top for me however after the acquisition something changed a bit and faded away. Anyway, one of the best registrars out there, no doubt.

My votes: Dynadot, Namesilo, 123-Reg

In the end, the tens of thousands of detailed postings in threads on this forum combined give the best insight, and it's almost impossible to summarize them in a poll. Still like the initiative though.

I think for many price is number one, we did have a poll years ago and price was number 1 in importance, then security was number 2.
For example Epik is doing pretty good to my surprise after the security breach, so is price the most important and security much less important to people, or aren't most people aware of the security of registrars, even after a security incident which happened recently.
