Deleted my one and only .xyz as soon as I found out how Negari was mis-marketing them.

No affect on anything but just my minute contribution.

You might be right, but personally I would not be surprised if they later on changed to something like:

"Search.google" or "S.google".

Could happen but it's not like any company will get its own TLD.
Also using your own corpTLD is brand affirmation, using a third-party TLD is not.
I mean, just because I can't get my own .company TLD, doesn't mean I will happily use .xyz instead. No. The fact that google start using their own TLDs doesn't really change my options.
