"Things are heating up in the new gTLD space, so much so that I think it’s pretty safe to say this is what Malcolm Gladwell would call the tipping point. It happened fast and it’s finally opening consumers eyes to the fact that they can venture beyond .COM. "

Interestingly, the articles comes from the same person who recently wrote an article claiming:
"If you have a US startup called X and you don’t have x.com, you should probably change your name."

Well, whether the times would change or not, Google adopting a new gTLD is something which can not be ignored and I see some future in .XYZ now!
Do you?

I was just looking for a good .space domain.

Ok im back, .xyz alone will not end .com's dominance but if you include the myriad other extensions coming on to the market then you can expect a certain amount of demotion although I think .com will remain at No1 spot for quite a while.

Eventually the new gTLDs will change the way people search the internet.

I expect some .coms to loose significant type-in traffic to the same/similar keyword new gTLDs

eg. nycyoga.com will loose type-in traffic to nyc.yoga and yoga.nyc

Spot on. It's what the premium COM owners are afraid of.

Xyz is and always will be the most useless extension in existence. Your reaction is completely overblown. They chose XYZ for a landing page and will not actually use it for their business. They will use .google for that. Do not invest in XYZ unless you want to lose money.

Being the most preferred extension .com finds a huge demand in international domain market .Too much money has already been invested in .com by various Big brands around the world. The most important thing is total number of websites operating currently in other extensions counts to only a small percentage when compared to .com alone. All that new gtlds would do is increase the value of .com.The new gtlds can only be used as a secondary option by those who can't get their preferred .com domain name.In future .com will get more & more valuable.

If that is the argument, why should it be to .xyz? Why not some other extension?

And why does it have to be against .com? Why not .info? Is it not because domainers buying these really want to be the next "pioneers" of the net with hopes of massive sales?

Let's take emotion out of it, and just use logic. New gTLD registries are charging ridiculous amounts for certain terms with high renewal fees. That is not really helping them or those who argue that this or that will end .com dominance. Domainers selling new gTLDs are pricing their domains at "jackpot prices".

I am sure .com owners could give a better deal to end-users for a better name, that has standard/low renewal fees.

.com will always be the gold standard.

there may some one hit wonders and some usable and likable extensions like .club,

and people will strike gold here and there.....(credit dot club comes to mind)

however,

100 years from now people will still remember .com,

Even when life is Star Trek-like in 2115 and people are all using technology that renders everything we are using today waaaaaaaayy obsolete, people will know .com. Dot .xyz and whatever? Ha. Perhaps a half paragraph mention in early 21st century history books about computers and technology.

Is it possible before you post in the future to check to see if it's already been posted so we don't have the same topic/conversation spread out all over the place? You do a lot of double posting, this topic in the exact same forum - https://www.namepros.com/threads/xyz-is-gonna-end-com-dominance-ha.873961/#post-4968011

No Never will .xyz replace .com

.xyz will need to get in line behind .org, .net, .co, biz that are well behind the .com level of end user purchases. There is huge .xyz hype at the moment thanks to great marketing with Silicon Valley TV show Hooli.xyz, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump registering the .xyz extensions and more media news about the extension. Daniel Negari is a smart guy and knows how to create a buzz and who know how long it will last? All the best to him IMO.

Churn and burn make fast small ROI whilst its hot as it will only last for a very short time... It's a domainers speculators buying market not an end user... N, NN, NNN .and premium one word .xyz domains will have fast ROI with current market.
