Here is the thing...
I was watching tv and this commercial came on.
It was for cetaphil products.
Well known brand, etc.
So I just plugged in cedaphil in search and found that the company cetaphil, amazon, and a few other big sites, all use cedaphil as a keyword.
Thus, checked and cedaphil is available to register in the .com
Be great as an amazon store for cetaphil products.
Now, would you register this domain?
Or bypass?

(now to see how long cedaphil.com stays unregistered! hahahahahhaa)

If there are no trademark issues and you can get it with a GD coupon or something then I say why not. Amazon affiliate sites can be pretty easy to setup as there are free themes out there and stuff. Wouldn't take long to develop so I think it'd be worth it.

I agree with @FPForum in that as long as there are no Trademark issues, then why not. As long as you can get the name cheap, go for it.

Try it out and see what happens. If it does good, then that's great and if not then it's no big loss.

Registered trademark since 2009. Good luck.

Bad thing is, GD is damn cheap now!
No coupons work for me, even using affiliiate links.

Okay namecheap it is.
$9.84

See in one screen at godaddy that ICANN fees are 25 cents.
Anyone seen this?

Regged it since I could not find any trademark for cedaphil....

Do the words "typo squatting" mean nothing to you?

I'm checking my calendar, because I was pretty sure this is 2015, not 1995.

And if you counter that it's not a "typo", then I'll respond that it's an obvious misspell and brands will go after misspells if they care anything about their brand. Registering that name fits all the major criteria for bad faith.

IMO. I'm not a lawyer, but I am an idiot, and even an idiot knows that registering that name is not a very wise move.

Why not be a DDC member for $77 USD? I'm sure you buy more than 10 domains from GD on an annual basis.

As for the topic at hand, if there is no TM and it's a typo then yes I would register it and park it and make sure that no TM products were showing on my landing page.

Your intent is to profit off of the trade name(work) of another.

I've bought and sold some misspelled domains. I've also swapped out Os for Zeros and sold them. I made a little money with m0ms.com. About enough to buy my m0m something f0r m0thers day.

Here's a fun question for all you guys out there. How might you arrange two Bs and two 0s (zeros) and one S to make a cool alpha-mistaken-number domain name?

Interesting discussion here.
I like it when I see both sides of the same coin.

Register it and make a Amazon site or something. Put other "related" products as well. What's the worst that can happen? A cease and desist letter of them trying to scare you? Just register it and make some money. It seems like the ones giving you advice "not to do it" are probably doing the same thing.

Being a dirt bag registering like Nikediscountfactoryproducts.com and making a store on it is definitely trademark/patent infringement among other things. He isn't doing that. Just do it. Also 1995 is different from 2015 due to the ever changing hardships of making internet money.

Better title

Would you register a misspelled obvious trademark?

You already know the answer to that one. You could just build a page on that, on a generic domain. Back in the early day, before Google corrected people's misspelled searches, some affiliates made lots of money making misspelled page after misspelled page.

They are so similar to extent of creating confusion. I think it is better you dont use it or else you will be watching your back all the time.

In last 10+ years.. I have one thing very clearly. Either work hard for top class quality or better don't work at all. I have attempted several tricks (quick money making type; misspelling is one), and end of the day.. I regreted for my hard work gone wasted.

Now, I am making a serious website (top quality type) for affiliate, and I know this time I'll succeed and will live long.

Ok we aren't talking about developing a complete niche on someone else's hard work. It's called "every penny counts." If he doesn't register it, someone from Serbia or Croatia will register it and do the same thing.
